Is it okay to strength train 2 to 3 days in a row?

I love strength training so much more than Cardio. Right now I am doing cardio 4-6 days a week. I have been trying to do strength training every other day. Is it okay every once in a while to do 2-3 days in a row of strength training (yes the same muscles and it's because of time issues/working extra)? I have started this body pump class at my gym and I love it. I wanted to do free weight at home tonight and then go to Body Pump both days this weekend. Then rest Monday and Tuesday. Is there any downside to me doing this?

Depending on how adapted you are currently. If you're an advanced athlete, go for it. If you're not, you're asking for an overuse injury.

The benefits of strength training come with rest...the exercise is only the catalyst...the magic happens while the muscles rest and repair. If you're working the same muscles on back to back days, you are negating your work because you have not given them proper time to recover.

While I would generally consider Body Pump to be largely a cardiovascular activity, it does incorporate elements of resistance that i would not think would mix well with a strength training routine on consecutive days. You'd probably be ok to do BP in the AM and then lift in the evening on the same day...but you need to give your muscles rest...like I said, that's where the actual magic happens.
