I've never been a fan of artificial sweeteners, but my doc says I have to. So which do you like the most and why do you like it over the others?

I use the real stuff 95% of the time. The rest is HFCS when I eat junk (typically I avoid it though) and stevia in my protein bars or powder. I can't stand the aftertaste of the other articial sweeteners. If I had to choose, it would definitely be agave or stevia though.0

I don't use any. Unless it's in dessert at a restaurant, I rarely have much sugar except fruit and a tiny bit of honey/jam!0

I use Equal (when really necessary) the tablets dissolves easily and the powder can be used in the same quantities as sugar (1 tspoon = 1 tspoon), it can also be used in baking (a lot of others cant).
I have tried most all of the others over the years I always come back to Equal0 -
I use EZ-sweetz (liquid sucralose) and Stevia.
Sucralose is artificial but stevia is natural--you can actually grow the plant and use the leaves. I grew it in my garden a few years ago but it is much easier to just purchase it in powdered form.0 -
Why does he say you have to?0
-
None.....i think they all have an aftertaste.0
-
If I buy them on their own (rather than in a drink, say), it's for baking generally - so be warned, while Stelvia seems all good... it does specify you still need to use SOME sugar. My low calorie protein brownies were pretty disgusting thanks to NOT reading that .... friend's GF still ended up finishing them off .0

I love Splenda. It is actually a lot sweeter than sugar so you can use less of it! I use it in baking and to make sweet tea. It really does save on calories. Of course you hear bad things about artificial sweeteners..but you also hear bad things about regular sugar. Nothing is good for you anymore.:grumble:0

ewww artificial sweeteners
change doctors, not sugars
but if for some bizarre reason i had to use one id use dried stevia leaves as its natural0 -
Splenda and Stevia0

I love Stevia!0
-
Stevia, it tastes better than the rest!0
-
Splenda because I like it.0

None, I think they are gross. They have such a weird chemical after taste.
I use the real thing, but I've learned to use less of it. I only use it in coffee.
I have tried nectresse (by the people who make Splenda) and it's not the worst thing I've ever had.0 -
I put 3 splenda in my coffee daily.
never tried cooking or baking with it...0 -

Splenda - tastes the best to me. Some folks find that stevia has an odd taste - it varies from person to person.0

I love splenda.0

Stevia is natural. It has a strange aftertaste and isn't as sweet as sugar, but it's the one I use when I don't use sugar.0
-
I use splenda in my iced tea. I like the taste and I have no side effects of any sorts with it.0
-
Stevia. It causes the least digestive upset for me. Of course, I use real sugar too, like agave nectar in my coffee and I eat the sugar that is in processed foods (like my chocolate bars.)0
-
I'm guessing you have or are at risk for diabetes because that's the only reason I could think of for your doctor to tell you to switch. If so, agave nectar and stevia are two safe, natural, delicious choices.0

I recently went to a nutritionist because I'm pre-diabetic. I had been using Splenda, because of no calories and I really liked, but she said I should try Stevia instead which is all natural and no calories. I have started using it. I don't like it as much, but I guess I have to get used to it.
She also said it very important to avoid food with high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.0 -
Try xylitol. It is a sugar but natural and has no aftertaste like Splenda, equal, etc0
-
I am so used to Splenda, have been using it for over three years now but I mostly have it once a day with my morning coffee and on weekends and rarely when I bake. I tried Stevia and did not like the taste at all.0
-
I have a sweet tooth as well, but artificial sweeteners all come with problems. Aspartame, gives your brain cancer, and the sugar alcohols (xylitol etc) gives you diarrhea. Something like splenda isn't that bad but it all comes back to why does everything need to be so sweet.
If you've got the 'Betes or are pre diabetic, it might be time to find more savory indulgences. Chasing the your blood glucose is such a pain.0 -
I looooove Splenda! I have tried others, such as Stevia, but I always come back to Splenda... I know its not as good for you but it tastes amazing!0
-
I use Splenda. It can have a funny aftertaste but I have gotten used to and don't notice it any more. Stevia gives me horrible headaches and monk fruit gives me a horrible aftertaste and weird film in my mouth that doesn't go away for hours. You really will just have to go out and buy a tiny amount of all the different kinds and see what works for you.0

No on the agave. It is essentially the same thing as honey and loaded with sugar.0 -
pure stevia extract, no maltodextrin or dextrose mixed in so it does not spike blood sugar.0
