  • Why Are there so many different types? How do I know which one to buy?

I bought the flex for my sister (wristband) and I got the One (you have to clip on). I didn't want the wristband because I thought it would be too noticeable and the One isn't. My sister wanted the Flex because she could put it on and not have to think about it. The One (from what I hear) can be lost a lot easier than the Flex. The Zip is a more basic model, if you don't want to have all the bells and whistles then the Zip is for you, but I like all the bells and whistles, even though I don't use them ALL. Someone else will have to chime in about the Flex vs the Force. It's all personal preference, that's how you choose.

Here's a chart that shows the different features of the various models.

The only feature I don't see listed is the watch function. The force has a watch display, I don't know what other models have this feature.

its the best thing ever have had the one, Flex and Force the wristbands are great and the social side is great very worth while purchase
  • I got mine for Christmas and I have worn it everyday since. It is really interesting to see what I'm doing from day to day and helps keep me motivated as well. If I haven't gotten in many steps on a Sunday and football is on I will get up and walk around the house during commercials.

    Really helpful for motivation

I love my Fitbit Flex! I wear it everyday...it's addicting and it works!!

This totally! I was in the same boat that you are in and finally broke down and bought one about two weeks ago. I absolutely love it! So glad that I got it!

YES. got the flex for christmas. I had no idea how sedentary i was. I pretty much ignore MFP calories available to me each day and watch the fitbit calories available. Have lost 6 pounds since January 1. I keep moving ALL the time now.

I hate jewelry BUT the flex does not bother me at all. I have read too many stories of the clip ons being lost or washed so this works for me.

    FOR SURE worth it!!

When I was reading one of the discussions on Fitbit a few days ago, someone suggestion putting the device in a sock to help with it counting more accurately. Maybe it would help in your situation?

I had BodyMedia last year and now I have a FitBit One. I like it! I think the BodyMedia was more accurate with calories burned and steps, but the FitBit is still good. For example, when I move my FitBit to a different pocket, it counts that movement as steps.

I love my Bit bit. just upgraded to the one. As with any piece of equipment you must use it and also eat well for any good results! I find it motivating!

I have a FitBit ultra - love it. My goal is 12,500 steps per day and sometimes I walk around the block 3 or 4 times after dinner to get my steps in for the day!

For those of you with a fitbit one, does it register when you ride on a bike/stationary bike? My force doesn't so I was just curious.

I don't think it interacts with any HRM.

jess- None of them are programmed to track cycling of any sort.
  • With the fit bit zip, how do you get the data from the fitbit onto your computer if you don't have a compatible device (e.g. I have the iPad 1 and an iPhone 3 and it says syncing is with newer models. Is there a way to get data onto your computer without this "syncing"?

It synchs to any computer with a USB port. The 'compatible devices' is referring to mobile devices.

It does not work with a bike. Most pedometers are set up to detect a transfer of weight from one foot to another - an "infinity" pattern. (Picture to yourself how a runner's ponytail traces a sideways figure 8 as she jogs along.)

It works on a elliptical machine or stair climber, but not on a stationary bike where your hips should not be swinging like that!

I have the One and I love it! As everyone says, they really motivate you to move - but the best part is the fact that I know how much i am burning on a daily bais. On really active days, I'm within a few calories of what the calculators say my TDEE is for being very active....on sedentary days, the same. If I'm running behind on my burn and need to hit a certain number to have the calories for food I want to eat, it lets me know how to get there. It really has helped me to trust the numbers.

As for which to get -- it depends on what you need. I chose the One because I wanted something I could wear all the time. If I'm at a party wearing a fancy dress - the One still clips to my bra. It is slimmer than the zip - I read that some people have issues with the zip showing through a fitted shirt, but the One doesn't seem to have that problem. Also the flex can overestimate steps if you talk with your hands...and it seems that there are issues with not counting steps if you're pushing a cart (I believe it counts steps when you swing your arms...

There are different models because they keep coming out with newer ones. The Flex and the One are the newest ones. But from my understanding, they all do pretty much the same thing. It just depends on your lifestyle and what works best for you. The chart someone posted a link to is great. Look at the different models and pick.

And worth it? I have yet to meet anyone who is unhappy with their investment.
