Good morning fellow runners. I hope everyone had a good run today. I did not. I had every intention of getting up early and doing a spinning class but I didn't. You know what they say about good intentions. The road to hell is paved with them, but that is another thread somewhere I am sure.
I did a weight training workout with my husband yesterday and I was very sore this morning. We may workout again tonight so I will throw some cardio into it and maybe some more weights. I haven't lost any weight since May so I think by not doing any weight training this has hurt me. I have done tons of cardio but I haven't really seen any results.
It is supposed to be nice around here so get out there an run if you haven't already. :flowerforyou:

Morning All!
Was out the door at 4:57 a.m. & got 5-miles in!! :drinker:
Got home & was about to turn on the water when I noticed a animal behind me. I turned around & it was a SKUNK!!!! :noway: :noway: The little ba$tard's under our front porch now!! I don't know what to do!
I don't know if the city's animal control will get it or if I'll have to call a cha-ching(!) specialist. :explode:0 -
Shannon, talk about a stinky workout! I hope you can get the little *kitten*!
Okay, the witch is finally slowing down so I think I can get a run in today. I'm going to just do it and see how far I can go. I'll report back after lunch!
Happy Running!0 -
Shannon, that stinks. Literally. I hope you don't have to pay big bucks to get rid of it. I hope you don't have any dogs or cats that would chase it. That could be a problem.0

Shannon, there's things you can do to keep skunks away. Not many of them will be any good while it's under there, but if you think it's made a home under your porch, you can put up a small 2 ft high temporary fence, that will keep em out. Also, throw up a very small, motion controlled light under there, you should only need to do that a couple of times and the skunk will HATE it. you can also put up a motion controlled sound machine that runs on batteries. The sound doesn't have to be very loud and the skunk will NEVER come back. If you make the sound a dog or wolf growling (dogs and wolves are the skunk's natural enemys) they usually leave and never return.

ok so now to my run post!
I'm going for time today to see where I'm at for my 5K a week from thursday, this should give me enough time to speed it up if I seem slow.
I'm shooting for 21:45 in my run. That's pretty slow for me, but I'm setting that for 2 reasons, 1st my foot is still a little scary and I don't want to push it.
2nd there is a big 300 yard hill on my course here at work, and that will kill my time, plus when you run in competition, you ALWAYS have a faster time then when you train. I usually run 30 seconds faster during a race. I'm hoping for under 21 minutes at the race, so this should be a good test.0 -

Thanks Banks, I'll look into that. A co-worker also suggested getting moth balls to put under there. He said the skunks hate the smell. (ironic!)
Helllllloooooooo Home Depot! :bigsmile:0 -
Got out and ran a little, in the rain. Then I went to spinning class for an hour. Then it was raining kind of hard, but I though oh well and finished the rest of my run. Going to turbo boot camp tonight!!!0

I have been inspired and lurking on here for a bit and could not seem to break 3.2 miles so I didnt seem really worthy to deem myself a runner yet-
But low and behold last night I ran over 4.5 miles with the help of my new heart rate monitor and a new pair of shoes. I was like lightning and felt like a million bucks.
I am excited to see how my running progresses from here. But I realize going over the 5K mark was really in my head more than anything but it was a big wall for me to break down.
Makes me wonder what else I hold myself back from because of imaginary walls.0 -

Didn't quite make the 21:45 ended up 22:05. Once again I started out too fast, and had a hard time finding my pace at about 1.5 miles. It's always that 2nd mile that screws me up. Course I underestimated the hill (man I HATE that hill), it's right at the end of the run so it's always looming. I have thought about reversing, but we are RIGHT at the top of the hill so it doesn't matter which way I run, I'll still hit it! But that's still pretty good. When I did my 21:36 in May, I was running a 23:00 minute mile in my training, so with another 10 days still to train, I should be able to beat my time (cross your fingers).0 -
I have not dropped off the face of the earth, I promise. July has just been one of those months for me. So, to go over my last few days...
Friday, I ran/walked the 3.1 mile loop around my "block" . It took me forever, but I did it. There are a couple of hills I wasn't expecting since I don't usually have a need to drive down the one road, but I made it. Now I know I can do the 3.1 miles without dying. I just need to work on my endurance and speed.
Saturday, I ran close to 2 miles. I was in Ohio, so I was in unfamiliar running territory. Not to mention hills...
Sunday, probably 1.5 miles. I ran with hubby, SIL & BIL. SIL & BIL have been running for a while, so I felt like the dead weight tagging along. But, they ran at my pace and probably helped pick me up a bit, so it was fun.
I'm hoping to get some running in tonight after my dd's soccer practice. Hopefully it will cool off some by then. I'll let you know tomorrow how it went!0 -
Good afternoon:flowerforyou:
I ran about 4.5 miles bright and early this morning.
You guys ROCK. Way to go!

Hi fellow runners!
I just got back from our family vacation and have to say I missed you all! I will have go read up on what I've missed! Did Banks join the club? I only ran once on vacation but we body surfed, hiked, ran on the beach, and never had a idle moment. We always say we're going on vacation to relax ..ha ha  But we had a great time. I returned with a sore knee. Don't know which of the weekend warrior stuff did it but it hurts to walk. Was planning to run with my running club tonight but think I will let it rest (old injury).
Take care,
Bunny0 -
Good job today everybody!
Hope you get rid of your skunk Shannon! That would totally freak me out.
Today I did a four mile "speed" workout, which was a bit of a joke calling it that because it was so hard to push myself to go fast. My legs still feel dead after Sunday's race. I'm going to try some more treading water to see if I can wake my legs up. I don't run again until Thursday, so hopefully they'll feel more alive by then.
Happy running everyone!

Wow, what a stinky thread! hehehehe OK, bad joke. Good luck with the skunk!
I am running 3 miles this evening with a friend. I'm a little nervous because it's supposed to be HOT. Any suggestions for running in hot weather? (90 degrees plus humidity)0 -
Alright, I just got back and I have no idea how, when, why, or what, but I managed to do 3.10 miles. I didn't run it straight through, but man I totally jogged most of the time. The good news is, I am jogging at a 4.5 pace instead of a 4.0 now. Go ahead, laugh, it's okay. One day i'll be running faster like you professionals!
I'm proud of myself people. I burned a total of 481 calories.0 -
I don't know if animal control will come get it or not. I know they can be mean if you get to close, so I would call for sure to check it out!
Nice Run by the way, getting up early and all.
Another day for me not working right. So I am not fighting it today and taking the day off.
I tried to get to bed on time and even though I was still late, I set my Alarm.
Then my husband was snoring. I tried to move him, but I couldn't get him to move right and finally after an hour had to move to the couch.
So I get up anyway, and while waking up I check my mail....
Best Friend Emergency. She has been on line all night:huh:
She kicked her boyfriend our for cheating  and even though she was really good about it, I knew she needed to talk. So for over 2 hours we chatted and then I had to get some sleep.
But woke up to a nice little earthquake, but now that is all the news is talking about. 5.6 about 25-35 miles away:noway:0 -
hey guys, i'm not a regular mfp poster, but maybe i will more--i was training for chicago but started too early after my surgery and stopped last week--i am going to run columbus half instead! i'd like to beat my 96 minute time but i have a long way to go after knee surgery!
anyways, have you guys ever tested your one mile time on a track? i'm wondering how we all compare... its the hardest test i've ever done!
We should all try it--gives you something to measure and improve on.0 -

Hi mick2323, glad to see you posting, if anyone should be it should be you!
I think that would be a great thing to do, but what is the best way to do it? Do you do a good warm up first (because it takes me like a mile or more to warm up really) and then just time a full mile with a stop watch. I have never done that and never ran on a track. Do you do a full blown fast as you can or just what you normally would run at a good pace? Sounds hard, but you could make a special board like the runners or bikers board?0 -
i asked a friend who used to run track how to warm up and he said by doing a 400 or 800 (once or twice around the track) and stretching as well as some long strides. I biked the 1.5 miles to the track and slowly ran a 400 and stretched then did the mile (4x around the track)
I definitely wanted to die on the last 400 but that is good! you must push yourself. obviously its not an all out mile sprint but a pretty fast pace.
My laps varied only about 2-3 seconds and my last lap was the fastest.
try it out!0 -
Hey Everyone! It looks like there is a wide variety of runs and animals going on today!
Annnnnyway...I got home from a long day of work and thought good 5.5 miles would be great. ITS HOT!! ITS HUMID!! The good news is I made it the whole 5 1/2 miles...bad news is I had to walk a 1/3 of a mile in the middle:grumble: :grumble: :grumble:
Happy Running!!

Hey everyone-
Ran a little over 6 miles today while my 7-year old was a football practice. It was kind of funy, because I mapped out a run around the park where he practices on mapmyrun.com. I'm not familiar with the neighborhoods around the park, so I wrote the directions on a little Post-It, so I wouldn't get lost. It was a great run - I love a change of scenery. If you never checked out mapmyrun.com, you should. It is pretty cool...
Good runs today, everyone!
