Have you factored in the number of calories your body burns just by existing? I think you'd be surprised.

    You're confused...........

You take 500 calories away from your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) .....this includes all activity (even exercise)

    http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

Your body needs a minimum number of calories to function......heart, lungs, kidneys, etc

If your TDEE = 2460 .....and you ate 1960 ....that is already a 500 calorie deficit (2460-1960=500). You can lose weight by reducuing food intake AND/OR exercise. You don't "have" to do both.

You forgot about your BMR that's a big part of the 2460. Add exercise to your BMR which you can google how to calculate.

Did you visit the link TeaBea provided for you? That should give you an estimate of your BMR (the number of calories your body burns keeping your organs and such alive) as well as your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure - roughly the number of calories your body burns in a day, including your exercise, work, etc)

  • Your body needs more than -500 calories to fuel itself. You should be netting at least 1200. If you follow MFP's instructions, your home page should say that you have at least 1200 calories per day. It should never, ever be a negative number.

Easy... just run a marathon daily... I burnt 2,500 on Sunday doing a marathon... I also burnt in excess of 3000 already doing over 30 miles some time ago. Plus, you'll be so tired and sore afterwards that you will not want to eat after... caution: there is the risk of injury or possible death to this method... but hey, there are risk factors for everything! Good luck!

MFP set your calorie goal up for you with your deficit already taken into account. When you exercise, the site expects you to log it and eat back at least a portion of the extra calories you've earned. This is intended to keep you from creating too big of a deficit, which could have health consequences.

You should be able eat 1940 calories and lose weight without any additional exercise, assuming that you're logging your food accurately and don't have any medical conditions that would affect your metabolism. Adding additional exercise, especially 2460 calories a day, is unnecessary and potentially harmful.

Waaaay too low.....especially for a man.

1200 minimum is recommened for women. Adult MEN get more because they typically have more muscle mass. Eating too few calories on a regular basis is hard on your organs, and likely part of your "weight" loss will be muscle. Fat loss comes from a moderate calorie deficit (plus exercise). Think of the added (exercise) calories as fuel for your workouts.

I would assume that 2000+ you will burn from just living, so I would suggest.... Don't die

If you are following MFP's instructions, your net and goal should be the same number (or close) at the end of the day.

Go to the goals tab and look at calories burned from normal daily activity. that is an estimate of what you burn per day with no exercise

    It shouldn't be that hard.

2460 seems like a normal maintenance level of calories for a man to eat.

You burn calories just by living and breathing, which is your basal metabolism. This is usually over 1000 for people. Some have higher basal metabolism than others, which is modified by height, weight, age, sex and even genetics.

Our metabolism is increasing by activity factors like standing, walking around, doing chores, working at our jobs, and exercise.

I think if you keep active by exercising at least 4-5 times a week, you should hit that 2460 calorie marker and lose weight on just under 2000 calories. If you exercise more then you can eat a little more

Body fat % on higher end of 20's right now but pretty broad and dont want to lose too much size just fat.

Okay, lift heavy weights, eat at a slight deficit (0.5 to 1 lb per week weight loss goal), get adequate protein (0.8+ grams of protein per lb of body weight) and give it time.

If your goal is 1950 and you burn 400, then you should eat 2350 calories today to lose weight.

That should be 0.8-1.5g Protein per kilogram body weight not pound (kg=pounds divided by 2.2....eg: 180/2.2=81.82kg)

No I main 0.8grams/lb, your suggestion is fine during maintenance, but in a deficit in order to maintain as much lean mass as possible you can go up to 1.6grams/lb and still benefit (if you are already lean)

From Normal Daily Activity 2,440 cal/day was on goal tab.

So then you only have to burn 20 calories from exercise to reach your 2460 per day while eating 1960 to lose 1 lb/week.

Your body burns calories 24/7...you require a whole **** load of energy just to keep you alive and everything working properly. The vast majority of your calorie requirements are just energy to keep you alive...lungs and heart going, etc....then you have your day to day stuff...exercise burn is minuscule in comparison to your other energy requirements.

I require around 2700 - 2800 calories to maintain my weight...of that requirement, roughly 400 - 500 calories are exercise...the rest of that is just me being alive and my day to day stuff. I also work a desk job.

Given that I know my maintenance calories, I can simply eat 2200 - 2300 calories (500 calorie deficit from maintenance) to lose about 1 Lb per week.
