Went way over my calorie count, feeling so guilty!

Hey all,
I've been so good all week; following my plan, working out, drinking lots of water. But then Friday comes around, I was too exhausted and drained to cook so I had take out and then some chocolate and then 2 glasses of wine. Today I feel so guilty and think all of my hard work has been wiped away after one evening. I don't know what to do now - how can I cancel it out or help myself feel better?

Don't feel too guilty, we have all done it! Just get back to your healthy eating tomorrow! And don't give up because of one "bad" day
If this is a regular thing, think of planning out a meal for your busy fridays in advance.

One day isn't going to kill you. If it makes you feel better, work out extra hard tomorrow and eat light. But don't worry, you'll be fine :flowerforyou:0

I just put a status kind of like this. It feels like it is getting harder and harder to stick to the plan. I want chocolate, ice cream, junk food. AAAAHHHHHHH!0

Don't be too hard on yourself, we've all been there. Try to take it in stride and know that this one bad day didn't undo all the good you did during the week. Make it a learning experience and do better tomorrow. :flowerforyou:0

Try not to feel so guilty. I just started last Saturday. Mon - Wed I did really good, however, last night I was really bad. But today, I am back on track again. I just hope to have more good days then bad ones. I will not give up, nor should you. Have a great night, tomorrow is a new day, so wipe your slate clean and start again in the a.m.0

Weight is not lost or gained on one days activity...it is an accumulation over a period of time.
So you made a bad choice to day...tomorrow just make a good choice.
It will balance each other in the end.0 -
One day off your plan will not derail you, as long as you don't let it! I used to feel like that if I went over my calorie plan, but I just drink a lot of water, keep up with the exercise, and move on. Just keep swimming.0

How much did you go over? Realize that you had one bad day and that it's okay, it definitely doesn't erase everything you've worked towards. Just get yourself back on the wagon in the morning. I've had plenty of days recently where I go over my goal, but other days when I meet it or am under it, and I never let it discourage me because I'm not gaining at least.0 -
Log it. Drink plenty of water. Make better choices tomorrow. You probably didn't wipe out all your efforts.
Also, no need to feel guilty. That's not going to help the situation.
Just make tomorrow a better day.
I would encourage you to not seek solutions to cancel out over-eating. That's a dangerous mindset and promotes disordered eating.0 -
I think we've all been there. Don't beat yourself up. If you don't allow yourself a little bit of excess once in awhile you'll be more apt to binge anyway. I have also learned that sometimes it is not as bad as you think it is.0

Work out extra hard the next day & it all evens out in the end!0 -

I like to look at my weekly totals if I slip up. It evens out most weeks and then I dont need to freak out!! You're good toots!!!0

Yes, you can just average it out over a weeks time. If you were 700 calories over, aim for 100 under everyday for a week. Fixed!0

I've put a cushion in my calorie count to cover days like today when I need a chocolate fix and drink a couple swigs straight from the hershey syrup bottle......lol.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day to get it right!0 -

Wow thank you so much everybody - your support and encouragement means a lot. I live in Japan so it is officially Saturday here - a new day. Its a beautiful day here so I plan on going out for a run soon and just getting back on track. I just hate the guilty feeling and don't want to feel like that again. As you've all said though - move on and keep motivated.
This is why I love MFP - its the first time that I have felt really disciplined and the first time I really think that I will achieve my weight loss goals and I know that it is a lot to do with the support I get on here so THANK YOU!0 -
You said you did so good all week. Focus on that. Unless you are a cyborg or something like that, you will do things that humans do. Embrace the fact that you had a little chocolate and some wine. Did you wipe out the chocolate shelf at the store? Did you drink enough wine to turn a California vineyard to a desert? Didn't think so. YOU ARE HUMAN! Straying once in a great while doesn't show that you are weak----it shows quite the opposite. If you don't reward yourself once in a great while, the urge is going to do is build more and more and a small act of indulgence will turn into something more massive and irreversible.
I strayed today with some mexican food and some ice cream myself. Haven't had any radical mexican food in a few weeks and no ice cream in almost a month. Its really ok. You got this young lady.0 -
It's not the end of the world. Remember that you didn't get to your current weight because of overeating on one day - it took awhile for that to happen. It's the same thing with losing weight. It's the trend over a long period of time and not just one day.
You should be proud of yourself for logging it (sometimes it can feel shameful to log the high calorie days - but you won't have any long term success if you cheat in your logging!). Maybe try and think about what caused you to go over today, was it emotional eating, are you being to restrictive on the other days of the week etc. If you can figure out what led to overeating today, then you can try and prevent it in the future (in my experience it will happen again, just log it and move on).
Something that also helps me is looking at my weekly calorie goals. As long as I stay under my weekly calories then I don't feel so bad about being over a few days.0 -
I chose two beers instead of food for dinner since I only had 389 calories left and I'm sooooo freaken hungry.I may go over by bedtime tonight0

Just like it takes a while to lose weight, it takes a while to gain it.
One bad night isn't gonna ruin a weeks worth of good days. (In the same way that eating healthy for one day won't all of a sudden make you fit).
Just don't make it a habit!
It's all about sticking to the path 80-90% of the time. As long as you keep that up the rest is wiggle room for the inevitable mistakes EVERYONE makes.

sometimes a bad eating day can be good, it will throw you body off, over time your body adapts to what you do all the time so you have to throw a change in there every now and then. I'm not talking all the time but here and there isn't gonna ruin all of your hard work. Just get back at it the next day and don't let it bring you down.0

It's one day. It's ok. But learn from how you feel. It's not a good feeling and to avoid it in the future, you know what to do. Or rather, what not to do.0
