Thank you! my wife says she is starting to notice, but me personally i dont see it lol. its only 7lbs. However, i only weigh myself once a week, so the starting weight i began with was the weight i was at a few days before i started using this app. so id say i lost that in a week. next friday will be my next weigh in... i cant wait0

I only looked at a few days, but you are barely eating 1200cals a day on the days I looked, I assume this may be the case for most of it?
As a male you need to be eating more than 1200cals...at least start eating the 1500cal target.
You are undereating...its a balance to undereat to lose weight...if you substantially and consistently undereat you will lose a lot of weight fast...but it won't be fat it will be muscle.0 -
ya, i know . i am not intentionally aiming for 1200 lol. i seems that at first before i was dieting i was over eating and now i just changed what i eat and now i am having a hard time hitting my calorie goal. i need to figure something out. maybe ill just start eating more chicken for dinner everyday lol0

I agree that you can eat more - probably 1500 - without affecting your weight loss based on what you say you do. Your lunches look a little sad Maybe try adding in some afternoon snack with lots of protein (nuts, boiled egg) and a fruit or a salad.
You're doing great! As my husband said to me when I started "Patience young grasshopper". Before you know it you'll be down a size. Just keep logging. That is most important. And keep eating those healthy meals! (I'd say whoever in your house that is doing the cooking loves you - whether it is your wife or yourself )0 -
You are definitely under eating, your comment of eating more chicken is good actually. More lean protein would be excellent. I think you are approaching this as a "diet" something temporary in your life. What works best for most is to approach this as a change to your eating habits. So must choose a method that is sustainable. So don't cut out any major food group. A lot of people will do the low or no carbs approach or low to no fat approach or the next to no food approach. The problem with this is the deprivation is so horrible that people just give up. Aim for a slow, but steady weight loss, eat the foods you want and like, limit the portion size (always measure) that will control the calories. The biggey is to exercise for fitness … the more you move the better your weight loss and the better you will feel. Good luck you are off to the a good start.
I'm an ex-smoker too 8 years (almost 9) free. Exercise!0 -
You're doing a great job! My advice on the "food" part is to be sure to include protein in every meal and snack. For example, if you are having an apple, add a Tablespoon of Pnut butter. Add additional egg whites to your morning scrambled eggs- adds protein, but not fat and very few cals. You're doing great, keep it up!0

In terms of meals, keep it simple. Try to have 4 oz of protein 3 times per day and lots of fresh veggies (stay away from canned anything, too much sodium!). Have 3 servings of grains per day (oatmeal is always a good way to go, brown rice or whole grain bread). and drink LOTS of water, at least 80 oz and stay away from all sodas, including the diet ones!
Get yourself a good bio tracker so you know how much calories you burn. I recommend the bio-fit, you can get in on amazon and it links with myfitness pal. if you need help or have questions, feel free to inbox me. Good Luck!0 -
WOW! everybody, thank you for the awesome advice, i think i learned more here than any amount of internet searching i have done. I try not to approach this as a diet and as a permenent change to my lifestyle. After hitting my goal i plan to maintain eating healthy ( even though i may cheat once a month or so after hitting my goals lol!) My kids are now wanting to eat healthy as well so that is even more of a motivation. What i do not want to do is get into a burn out mode and i feared that. But after hearing the advice and encouraging words, i have a plan that will help me hit my calorie goal as i do not want to lose the muscle but FAT.
this community by far is awesome.0 -
After reviewing your diary I do not see any drinks logged (especially water). Keep in mind whenever you drink soda or any other type of beverage for that matter that you are also drinking empty calories. I recommend V8 if you enjoy drinking juice since it also has fiber and vitamins in it.
As far as water goes, you should be drinking at minimum 8 glasses a day; the mayo clinic recommends 13 for men and 9 for women.

Make sure you are staying hydrated especially in the morning and before meals.0 -
Actually i havent kept up with logging of the water, but i will say i easily over 8 cups a day, probably triple that. i have cut ALL juices out of my diet as im trying to avoid as much sugar as possible. i know juicing is an option, but id rather just eat the fruit lol.0
