Does anyone else go through eating "cycles"? I have a week or two where I have a really small appetite and then a week or two where I eat everything I can get my hands on. It drives me nuts...

I am exactly like this. Especially this week I can't seem to eat under my calorie goal and I don't feel like I've eaten anything. Very frustrating!

This week I have not been hungry at all and I feel great. Then some weeks I am so starving. I just listen to my body. If I am just really hungry then I start dipping into my exercise calories.

Yes! Today is one of those days where food just doesn't sound good to me, but I know I have to eat in order to have enough energy to make through another workout.
  • Oh hell yes!! My normal routine is training on my bike 2 hours a day during the week, and about 8 hours over the weekend, and I eat about 1800 calories a day for the most part. For about a week I'll be doing fine, then after 7-10 days that caloric deficit catches up with me and I can't stop eating for like 2-3 days solid. It seems to balance out though, and I maintain my weight at about 145 pounds. Holy crap do I love those days when I can binge. But I think in general if you run a caloric deficit, or even close to the margin, your body will tell you it's time to eat. From the looks of that photo, you need to worry about your weight about as much as I do.

Yeah I maintain pretty well... I'm just trying to tone up a little bit more. But I always get a hard time from friends and family because I go from hardly eating to pigging out. Getting closer to races it gets really bad to the point that I eat so much I feel like I've gained ten pounds and won't be able to compete!
  • I get the exact same thing from my friends and family too. But "feeling" like you've gained ten pounds, and actually gaining ten pounds are two very different things. If you're weight stays fairly constant over a few week period, I'd ignore the slight gains and losses that you see over a few days. I train so much that I could eat 4000 calories a day and still be fine, but this is the off-season for me. Bike racing doesn't start back up until Jan/Feb., and then I'll start being a little more religious with my eating. You look pretty amazing though.
