Finally admitting it out loud

Hi, I am 31 years old with a 6 & 9 year old. I have always been overweight but I have finally realized that I need to have help and have others to share my journey with if I am going to accomplish my goals. I have never told anyone that my starting weight was 296in November and I was so happy to weigh in this morning at 259 but I still feel like I can't call anyone and celebrate because for most everyone else this is still a HUGE number. I am looking for friends on here for motivation and to be able to share my triumphs with people who have been there.

  • At my highest I weighed 315 and over the years I have been up and down, so I understand your struggles. I am currently 250, so we are in the same boat. Congratulations on your weight loss and celebrate being brave enough to be so honest about yourself. You have guts and I think you are on the right track. :)

Hi Christy. Welcome! And congrats on what you have already accomplished. You should be very proud of yourself!

I recommend looking at the Success Stories of the message boards. Find some people like you, who have faced the same struggles as you, and ask if they will be your friend and offer support. I'm sure some of the people would be happy to help.

Reading other people's blogs can also be really inspiring. You can write messages on the blogs and ask if you can connect and be friends.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I, too, am ashamed to admit my weight and keep the secret hidden from everyone I know. I even avoid the doctor because I do not want to step on that scale in front of anyone. my highest weight was two years ago when I hit 242 and I am now hovering around 225. I am just getting back on MFP after about 9 months of doing nothing. Would love some support on the sight! You're story is inspiring....keep up the good work :)

why not? You don't have to call and give specific numbers, just call and say, "holy cow, I've lost 37 pounds in three months! How cool is that!"

congrats on your loss. Please feel free to add me as we started out at the same weight. I guess I never told anyone what my starting weight was either. I would just say that I lost ___ weight. Best of luck. Jen
  • Different numbers here, but same situation. I think I was afraid to ask for help because I knew people would know enough to be disappointed in me when I failed. But now that you have momentum, you can own that. Tell people, and use their help and encouragement to get you over rough patches.

Can't tell you how much help my wife is in motivating me.

Good for you! I found the hardest part was being open and honest, I was so embarrassed for letting myself get that far. I'm just starting my journey but if you want any added support feel free to friend me! I'm 32 and have an 8 year old.
