Scale reading is very odd

I got a scale over Xmas and started using in January.

Each day was roughly the same, then TOM from early January so didn't bother weighing myself, I finish and weighed: 140.8, gradually 140.4 now today 139.8. It's very small changes so I don't know whether to state I am actually in 'maintenance' because during my TOM week I consumed a lot of chocolate and didn't do any exercise, even yesterday I had take away and the scale is showing lower. The scale says I'm going down very slowly but the weight gain has gone to my face and is noticeable. What is going on?

Normal daily fluctuations you can fluctuate 4 to 5 pounds during a day
  • Even small losses are to be celebrated in my opinion, and you obviously didn't do as bad as you thought otherwise you would have put on weight. If you are saying your face looks heavier though, (think I read that right), is your diet very carb heavy? I don't pay too much attention to my carb levels (I should), but I think carbs can cause your face to look heavy (google carb face)!

Each time I've gained weight which I didn't read on the scale as it was my TOM at the time, I ALWAYS observe my face getting bigger - it has a little - not significantly and I know it'll go down if I continue keeping at a calorie deficit. I wasn't worried about calories when I was studying for my exams. My face has got a little bigger and it is definitely noticeable but I don't know why the scale keeps saying I'm losing.

Definitley not carbs, I've noticed my face is the first place to gain out of everywhere for a year now.
  • it might be just sodium retention. make sure you're drinking a LOT of water, especially during that week. it may look like you've gained weight in your face, but you may just be retaining sodium that isn't showing in other parts of your body because it's in your face.

This makes sense, I'll drink a lot more water from today thank you.
