Teacher's aide on leave after modeling photos surface

FITCHBURG, Mass. (WHDH) -- - A teacher’s aide at South Street Elementary School has been put on administrative leave after school officials learned of her second job.

The school district received an anonymous tip that showed three racy pictures, showing the aide posing in lingerie.

The superintendent released a statement on Wednesday saying paid administrative leave status does not constitute a finding of any wrong-doing and added that this situation poses no threat to the student body. At this time, it’s solely a personnel issue.

Some people think that the woman’s behavior is not appropriate for a day job.

“They're held to higher standard they're teachers. There’s certain jobs like that, teachers can't post stuff on Facebook or social media because they have a higher standard they need to live up to,” Kenneth Cutting said.

Many other parents don’t seem to mind as long as she can do her job.

“If she can do her job and fulfill the needs of the kids I think it’s irrelevant want she does after hours,” Tom Lecourse said.

The school conducted a criminal background search when the woman was hired, but didn’t search social media. If they had, they would have found the photos.

Moving forward, the superintendent said that the district will be checking social media and Google during the hiring process.

Infuriating! NOTHING she did interfered with her job, nor was in any way illegal. And whoever sent in the anonymous photos is a douche.

I don't post racy pics with my head because of my job. Maybe the aid should have been smarter. Life isn't fair.

That's ridiculous, as long as its nothing criminal, what people do in their own time is their business.

I absolutely agree that she shouldn't be fired because of these racy but apparently non-pornographic photos, but that's also precisely why I turned down nude modeling offers in art school when I was trying to get my teaching certification. It doesn't matter how tasteful and beautiful these photos can be, someone will always find them inappropriate and that person may be your boss.

if we don't want teachers getting second jobs, maybe we should pay them better. especially if we're "holding them to a higher standard". lets reflect that with pay.

Kinda hard to model without your head. But really, if she was in the exact same outfit, but a JCPenney catalog, I somehow doubt this would be an issue. Or if she was in the same outfit, but plus-sized. My bet, it's some jealous, overweight mom who was the anonymous tipster.

^^YES, this exactly! Especially teachers aides, they make so little. Who cares about pictures in lingerie?? Anybody who's walked past a victoria secret store has seen it. There's way worse "second jobs" that she could have gotten....

    Here here!

If they're recent photos she's had done though, she's kind of an idiot because I've heard at least one other story about a teacher having similar pictures and being in hot water...

Pay rates were not mentioned in the article nor in the post, so you assume what she is being paid, right?.

actually - it says she is on paid administrative leave in one of the first paragraphs.

That would be correct. Based on average salary data. Please, share with us what you think a teacher's aid makes, even in the top range.

    ^ This!

And who cares! Like another poster said, to see the same stuff all you'd have to do is walk by a Victoria's Secret display.

But probably not wrong or far off. Or it wouldn't have been done anonymously. If I found out a teacher was doing something I felt detrimental to my kids, I'd stand right up and say it. I wouldn't hide, and just try to get them in trouble. Anonymous means there's either fear of retribution, it's a lie, or there's a jealous component, IMO.

Well, she put the pics on the internet, someone was going to find them. If they find her actions compromise her effectiveness in the classroom, she may be out of a job completely.

that's very true. and, just to throw information out there, average teacher's aid salaries for Fitchburg, MA is $21,743. A more generous salary for that location is $28,546.

Now, explain to me how anyone can be surprised that this woman felt it necessary to get a second job.
  • Fitchburg is just up the road from me. I think I have to go investigate more into this matter. I'll post my findings later.

Don't need to mention pay rates as the interwebs is a great place. http://www1.salary.com/MA/Fitchburg/Teacher-Aide-salary.html

Now having been down in MA a number of times I doubt that you could live on that. Of course you could go look up rents, etc.

She did nothing wrong other than offend a bunch of antiquated prudes IMO.

I feel like teachers should be held to a higher standard than most other professions. Modeling is one thing but racy/provocative modeling is a whole other thing. I'm not really sure if she should lose her teaching job over this but whatever.

If your argument is that they should pay her more then she wouldn't need another job then you clearly don't understand the free market.
