ok... so here I go....
I have three kids and I am completely out of shape. I am at a near low and need help. I am a prediabetic which could be maintained through weight loss and of course giving up on sweets and pepsi.... But how can I..... pepsi is an addiction... a bad one... I am not a big eater and work full time and have no time to do anything.... I am almost 260 and can not loose the weight.... I am uncomfortable and feel so ugly. I cant even sleep in the same bed with my husband because this is not the way he met me.
Please help.... how can I walk away without bad migraines?? How can I jump start this weight loss?

Your kids are obviously a very important motivator for you to get healthy but here are some other things to consider:
They just had a story on the news last night about how the caramel coloring is Pepsi is cancer causing - if that's not motivation to leave it behind I don't know what is.
Though in fairness, 3 weeks ago I was just like you - total Pepsi addict and do I EVER have a sweet tooth, but I told everyone I was quitting it and though it has taken some serious willpower, I haven't touched it since I said I was quitting it. You have to decide how bad you want this. The first week without it is the hardest the migraines last about 4 days, then they are gone and after that you won't miss it anymore.
Diabetes also runs in my family, so try this, the next time you want a can of Pepsi, ask yourself is this can worth the possibility that I will get diabetes and as a result could end up not only on insulin for the rest of my life but potentially blind and needing to have limbs amputated. The choice is always up to you.
Everyone always thinks they have no time but the fact of the matter is you have to *make* time. If that means getting up an hour earlier, going bed an hour later, skipping that TV show - or working out on the commercial breaks, or working out on your lunch break then that's what you do. No one achieves success without making the time to be healthy. So schedule it into your day like an appointment and then go and do it. Even if it's just walking - any exercise is a step in the right direction. You just have to start moving!
You have the capabilities to succeed you just need to believe in yourself and be stronger than your cravings. Its easier said than done, but it can be done.
If you need support or a friend please feel free to add me.

I reversed prediabetes with diet, so it is possible.
Slowly cut down on the Pepsi. Don't forget it also has caffeine in it, which is most likely what is causing your migraines... so wean off it like anybody would wean off coffee. Try and replace it with something calorie-free... if that's diet soda, that's OK. Just try to make sure it doesn't have caffeine. It's not that caffeine is bad and you should never have it, you can, just cut down on it.
Start exercising, because this will help with the cravings. Even if it's just a little bit at first, even if it's just walking at first. Don't let your self-image bog you down - how can you ever be happy with yourself if you let yourself get in your own way? you're working continually at bettering yourself, so let that little nagging voice over your shoulder go. You're not fat (period), you're just overweight right now.
Make sure you're eating enough and sleeping enough. This helps regulate a lot of hormones that can cause fatigue and lead you to replace one reliance on caffeine with another. Neither of these things should be a problem if you're exercising.0 -
I was a pepsi addict too, and its true, if you can get through the first week, you wont recognize the taste anymore. It's amazing.
I quit 5 months ago. I have a heart arrhythmia and have to leave caffeine alone. I drink gallons of decaffeinated iced tea with sucralose. I also allow myself some flavored water, that really helps.
It takes a lot of will power. I am not a mother, but I was in a similar situation 5 months ago. I am so thankful now that I gave the pepsi and sweets up. I have totally changed my way of eating. Fruits are the way to eat sugar. All the best!0 -
I bought a book called Get the Sugar Out. What's nice about this book is it gives you 500 tips on how to cut processed sugar out of your diet. There are also some really good recipes in it. There's one for a muffin that has flax seeds and walnuts instead of flour. It uses Vanilla protein powder flavored with Stevia and just a little bit of honey for the sweetness. It also has raisins, zucchini, carrots and apples in it. 15 grams of protein in each one and they are DELICIOUS! I make a dozen a week and just refrigerate them. They are great snacks or breakfast options.
Since eliminating processed sugar and white flour, I have lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks. I don't crave sugar, although I will say Olive Garden commercials have me drooling for pasta. I've switched to quinoa instead. I still get plenty of sugar, it's just natural sugar from fruits and vegetables. You can do this...you just have to really want it.0 -
You can give up the Pepsi but it's hard. I gave up all pop just before Christmas this year. I've been trying to unsuccessfully for the last couple of years, but to be honest my heart just wasn't in it. Then, something happened. I started feeling horrible soon after I drank a pop. It was my biggest vice, but I just don't want it anymore. There's nothing good in it at all, and now I feel like I'd be poisoning myself if I drank one. I haven't had one since Christmas....I'm feeling the benefits already and I've lost weight. Just by posting this thread, you've made a step forward...good luck breaking this addiction.0

The migraines are likely due to lack of caffeine. Try Diet Pepsi, tea, or coffee.
Honestly, my best suggestion would be to change your attitude. It's going to be very hard to lose weight going in with an "I can't ..." attitude. You CAN do it if you want. It's unlikely to be easy, especially at first. But you can do it.
Also, I'd suggest NOT looking for a way to jump start weight loss. Just clean up your diet. Eat less sugar and processed grains. When you eat sugar or grains, eat them with a protien or fat. This will slow digestion and prevent blood sugar spikes, which is very important since you are insulin resistant.
If you crave something sweet, maybe try honey roast peanuts or cocoa roast almonds. If you want a sandwich, look for low carb wraps instead of bread. Don't think "What diet foods can I eat", think "What healthy foods can I eat." Just watch lower your carbs, and stay within your calories. Eat healthy, but eat food you enjoy. DO NOT STARVE yourself. Slow and steady.
Get some exercise everyday, but don't overdo it to the point that you give up. Every little bit helps.
You really can do this. Best of luck to you!0 -
I feel like you and I could be sharing the same story! I am a complete Pepsi addict, I used to joke with friends that I would inject the stuff if I could. So I completely understand the struggle to just quit it completely. Every time I've tried to cut cold turkey it has always failed and I just end up drinking more of it. But recently I've been able to cut back drastically, I can now have one in a blue moon and feel totally fine, sometimes I don't even finish it anymore. Pepsi and sugar in general is so addicting, but you can do it! Feel free to add me as a friend!0

I appreciate all the feedback with regards to this! Thanks for everything... this is going to be a long journey because everytime I give up the pepsi for a week... the headaches make me go back.... I am in it this time and hopefully I will be able to overcome this... I really WANT to loose weight...0
