New here, and a little confused.

I'm not entirely sure how this all works. What's the best way to keep track of how many calories you burn while working out? I feel really lost, I have so many questions i'm not even sure where to start. Any advice is appreciated! I tried this 2 years ago, and didn't last too long. I don't want to give up this time.
