Big Goals!

This is my first time using a tool like MFP to track calories in and calories out. I've tried what seems like so many things in the past, but I'm only 31!

With that being said, I am only 31 and have a serious weight loss goal: 100 lbs (I feel like if I post it, it'll be more real for me).

I just started exercising again (with Just Dance 2 via the Wii) and I've ordered Shaun T.'s Rockin' Body (if you've got opinions of that I'd love to hear them).

I think that I've finally realized that this is about a lifestyle change instead of a quick fix or fad and I would love to hear from anyone in the way of support or encouragement: those that are at the beginning of their journey or those that are in maintenance of their current weight.

Just a bit about me: I'm Jess from the northeastern part of the US and I love Winter, Music and Tea (just to name a few things!).

My only advice would be to make smaller goals and work towards the bigger goal of 100lbs. You will want to feel the little accomplishments to keep you motivated to make this a lifestyle change. It is good to have friends on here to hold you accountable as well as give you support. Stay motivated and good luck on your journey. I have about 50lbs to lose. I could manage to lose more, but I will start with that!

Welcome! I live in the opposite corner of the country, but I do like music and tea. I have a long ways to go, too. At least 80 lbs., 100 lbs. from my high weight would be the maximum.

And now I think I will get out the Wii Zumba after a late breakfast/early lunch.

Eventually, you will want to add in some strength training. Do you have the balance board for your wii? The Wii Fit has some strength exercises you could start with and I love doing the EA Active Personal Trainer, especially the More Workouts game.
  • Hi!

    Congratulations on getting started.

I agree with the previous post about setting milestones within your goal. Having a goal is so important, but it's equally important to be able to celebrate along the way. Set smaller goals so you can pat yourself on the back as you work hard to achieve your goal.

I also think it's really important to have a support system. You mentioned that you ordered Rockin' Body - if you ordered through Beachbody you'll have a coach. Get in touch with them so they can offer support along the way. Friends and family are also great resources. And of course, the people you connect with here. Threads like these are great places to find daily support and motivation.

    Feel free to connect!

    Best of luck

Thanks for the advice about Strength training! I wasn't sure about the Balance Board, but I'll have to give it a try!

As for the goals that others have mentioned, I tend to make mine about nutrition or fitness, rather than the weight. For example, I am currently working towards doing a push up. Sure, I will get excited when I hit milestones, like being under 200 or fitting into my spring suit, but I find it more rewarding to work towards the fitness goals.
  • I've just started too, don't really know how to use this MFP properly yet! Does anyone have any good pointers or advice please? Sorry if this is on someone's post, I don't know how to write my own! Thanks
