Hello,
I am 22 years old, currently a little under 190lb and I am 5'4". I was do lose about 60lb and get down to a goal weight of 130-135lb. I used to be very active. I did basketball and karate religiously 6x a week, both activities, all through middle school, high school and up until about the summer before my junior year in college and now I am currently a first year grad student. since my junior year I have gained about 40 lb because I have not been eating healthy and have not been very active. I have gotten to a point where I am very upset with the way I look and feel and I want to make a change. I do like exercise I just am not good at working out on my own. So I have signed up for a couple classes here on my campus. I was wondering if my plan is good and if it will actually help me lose weight or if I am setting myself up for failure. I plan on going to spinning class 2x a week, body combat 2x a week and body pump 2x a week. My goal is to workout out 6x a week for about an hour every time. I also plan on eating healthy and drinking lots of water. I was wondering what people's thoughts were on this and if they had any advice for me. Thank you!

Will exercise help? Of course. Anything you do that raises your heart rate so you're burning calories will be beneficial. However, the only mention I see about diet in your post is at the end about eating healthy. What's eating healthy? You can eat healthy and still eat more calories than you burn, now since you're on MFP I'm assuming (hoping) you will be counting calories as well. That's the most key thing about all of this, above exercise! Make sure your diet is on point if you want to be successful. But to your question, exercise will help you lose weight and what you have listed seems fine. If it's something you enjoy and can stick to, then even better! Good luck.0

You lose weight by eating at a deficit. Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-Sexypants0

Exercise is for endurance and strength, calorie restriction is for losing weight. In order to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you eat. Exercise can help create that deficit but it's not necessary.
You can eat as healthy as you want, but if you don't create a calorie deficit you won't lose weight.
I suggest you set your goals up in MFP to lose 1 -2 pounds per week and exercise as you want to. Be sure to eat a portion of your exercise calories back so you properly fuel your body.0
