Barry's Bootcamp

Anyone been there? I know it's been popular in the US for some time and now they're in London as well. From what I hear, the workouts are exactly the same.

I want to go but I am SO out oh shape I fear I simply won't make it. I have the weakest arms and chest and am afraid I'll cave even if I try.

Is it as hard as people say? Are some workout 'gentler' than others, so that I can start with that before moving 'up'?

Hadn't heard of it but just checked it out on the website £170 for 10 classes? This seems quite pricey to be honest. Most places run local Boot camps for around £3-5 a session. Obviously I'm not aware of your goals & you may have something specific in mind. However, I might be playing Devils Advocate here but this just looks like a "Celebrity endorsed workout" so I'd be careful you don't end up paying through the nose for something you could do fair more cost effectively elsewhere.

As for bog standard boot camps. I know a few people who started out attending with pretty low/mid levels of fitness, & it made a big difference.
  • I am in love with it! Yes the workouts are challenging, so you need at least a basic fitness level, but most importantly listen to your body. The basic premise is HIIT (high intensity interval training) intervals. 5-8 mins on a treadmill, alternating with sprints and hills, and then you switch to the bench for 5-8 minutes of lifting/core work/strength training. And switch back. Of course every trainer is different, some are definitely harder than others and push you more, but it is the best workout I have ever had. Your first time, have a snack for some fuel an hour or two before (ie banana and peanut/almond butter), be 15 minutes early, and tell them it's your first time.

As to the cost, yes it's a little pricey, but the more classes you buy the cheaper they are (at least in Nashville). I started by buying 20, and I just go 1-2 times per week to really push myself/feel the burn, and then I do yoga/run/go to the gym the other days.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions!
