Yes, I have a serious case of anorexia and I a m choosing to recover at home. The question is, am I getting enough food? Here's what I'm eating:
A 2 egg omelet with spring greens, salsa and mushroom
A grapefruit
An apple
A cup of chai tea with coconut milk and stevia
around 3 cups of Trail mix (almonds, cashews, dark chocolate, banana chips, and dried fruit)
5 or 6 oz of turkey breast
lettuce and baby carrots
About how many calories do I need to repair my body? And How many do you guys think I'm actually getting? Thanks ^-^

Very much this. We don't know what you need to repair your body, but a doctor would. I would also venture to guess that it's not enough food, because it's not far off from what I eat to lose weight. BUT I'm not a doctor, and more importantly, I'm not your doctor, so I really do recommend discussing it with them.0 -
Unless you are some type of rabbit or crow, you are eating entirely too little. I would suggest talking to a doctor and maybe getting a nutritionist. You are obviously still in an anorexic mind set if you think that is enough to eat for one day. Please seek help before you hurt yourself.
PS. I see this is the third time you've posted something like this, and while everyone has given you advise you choose to not take it, and just start a new thread instead. If you are seeking attention, perhaps you won't find it here.0 -
This looks to be about 1100 calories/day. But, in order to repair, you need more than that and you need more protein. I also recommend a nutritionist. Good luck.0

So that's about what I eat in a day, is it bad guys? I try to snack on nutrient rich foods like trail mix.... but it's not enough to repair my body?0

You are at a point where you cannot eat too much. These are all nutrient rich foods but there should be much more of them!0

1/4c is between 150-210cals typically so your math is low0 -
The foods you have listed are not bad foods. But they do not equal enough calories for one day for the vast majority of people. If it were me, I'd try adding some oatmeal, brown rice, and a couple tablespoons of peanut butter to my day to get the calorie count up a bit higher, while still eating healthy items.
Recovery will require more than what you've listed. You *can* do this!0 -

It sounds to me that you have the right idea about what is healthy. Keep eating the trail mix, nuts are very good protein. I'd say your'e eating less than you should if you want to gain weight, though. How about trying some brown rice as a healthy grain addition? You can have it for lunch, since it is easy to eat and not too heavy. Make a rice salad and add olive oil, herbs, tomatoes and onions. You are probably not very hungry, so try some cold food. Tends to go down more easily.0

I looked at your posts and you seem to be asking the same questions over and over that really should be aimed towards a good doctor or dietician. I also see that you have posted concerns that you are gaining weight whilst eating very low calories so it appears to me that you have other issues that need attention also. Good luck to you but I really feel that any advice on here is not going to be sufficient for you and I woudl highly suggest seeking some help for underlying issues that counting calories will not fix.0

Don't. Seek a professional. If you don't have funds, try contacting some to work something out, or seek some that offer free outpatient services.
You have a diary that's been manually set below 1200, a goal of "getting tiny," and food days that are hardly above 1000.
You'd need to eat at a surplus to recover, but it's not just the weight you need to recover--you need to relearn healthy behaviors that is near impossible to do "on your own."
For every anorexic that "self-recovers," you have that same individual falling into alcoholism, cutting, etc., or just falling back into undereating within several years times.0 -

As someone who has been anorexic.. been to rehab... the whole nine.. seek professional help! Being on a website that has you COUNT EVERY CALORIE is not the way to get over your eating disorder. That is not enough food to sustain your body. Talk to someone who deals with this professionally and they will get you back on track and on a plan to give your body the fuel it needs. Do not seek help from anyone else but someone unless they help people with eating disorders for a living.0

I am recovering too...I have a blog if you want link e-mail me. but regarding your question, honestly i've found when I am asking someone is this enough, it's because I know it's not and i want permission to eat more. That is nowhere near enough. Best thing to do is get a nutritionist/dietitian. They will tell you exactly what you need. Or go to treatment. I too am choosing to recover at home, but only because i have been to treatment multiple times and thus going back to treatment doesn't make much sense to me. If you want more details message me. But yes...eat more. Try and use myplate.gov and structure meals like that. 3 real meals and 3 snacks are way to go for most ED recovery.0

i'm currently in treatment and they want me to eat 2000 a day. for me that is a lot for me to mentally handle so they have settled for me to at least get to 1500 a day (i was on 600/700 when i went in). it helped me to up my cals like by 100 each week until i got to eating more. every persons different and it really would benefit you to see a doctor or nutritionist about it. if money is a problem then you can find a research study on eating disorders to get free treatment, i am doing that through columbia university.0

Have you consulted with any health professionals ie: doctors, dieticians, eating disorder therapists? The food you listed is good and healthy but kind of low on calories and not sure of your age, height, current weight? How were you eating before you decided to make a change? I think you need to try and add more calories to your daily intake - I am not a health professional. This is a serious issue and you really should try and get some professional help with it. I tried to view your food diary and went through 3 days and nothing is entered0 -
Anna, I just read your previous threads. Ankle swelling is a sign of severely progressed anorexia. Another physical symptom that can occur around the same stage of progression is fluid build-up around the heart cavity that can lead to cardiac arrest.
I am not a doctor and I've never met you. I cannot tell you that you are anorexic, that your ankle swelling is related to your dietary restriction, or that you are at risk for more complications. No one on this site can tell you that. The 2 sentences above are just facts. In my opinion, you would be better of talking to a professional who can give you personalized advice and care. You can start wherever you're most comfortable - a family doctor, a therapist, a school counselor. Find someone you can open up to in real life rather than on a computer screen.0 -
First off, good for you. I have been there and know how hard it is. How much you should eat really depends on how much you have been eating recently if you are working on recovery. There is a particular way of refeeding after prolonged anorexia. Youreatopia.com has some helpful information on recovery meal plans, but you should be under the care of a physician. There can be a certain amount of shock from eating again depending on your medical state. If you are willing to recover at home, a doc or nutritionist can give you the best guidelines. I think you are doing great so far and even though I don't know you, I'm really proud of you. I promise it's worth it!0

Please ask for help from a professional! Everyone is different and it is nearly impossible to get the help you need from anonymous people on the internet who only know little bits and pieces. I agree with 'March7' - you need to go through recovery with PROFESSIONALS...not internet forum advice.
I too suffer from ana, and thought I could 'do it at home'. Are you kidding me? There is no way I would have forced myself to eat the amount one should be eating to recover your body to a healthy weight and function.
Once i finally accepted going into hospital (which was most of last year), I was given 3000-4000 calories to eat in a typical day. Do you actually think you can do that at home??
Suck it up, and seek medical advice and have someone carefully (again...professional) monitor your progress.
I'm still struggling, but am working through a bunch of stuff.

Please get properly educated on the basics of nutrition because you seem to have no knowledge. A professional could help point you in the right direction0

You need too see a nutritionists, I'm not just saying that. When recovering your body you are also expanding your stomach. Your stomach shrinks with minimal food and you have too slowly introduce food.
For instance the holocaust. A majority of people who survived the camps died after because they consumed to much food at a time that their bodies couldn't not handle it. Recovering from anorexia is not something you do at home. You need to get some kind of guidance.
I highly recommend treatment, group therapies help tremendously once you're ready for them.0
