I guess Im lucky, I have an advantage- cause I've had over 200 periods, I know what to expect now. I couldnt imagine just experiencing this for the first time. tugs on the heartstrings you know?

Dont worry, once you've had it a few times, you will also know what to expect :flowerforyou:

really... you have NEVER heard of anyone having cravings on their period? really? also, why are men so sensitive that they can't happen across a thread about menstruation?

on that note... if I say I am PMSing, is the tone of this reply more acceptable?

WOW! Avoid this woman, she is obviously on the rag!

I don't get cravings, but do become very hungry a day or so before - like I need to eat every 2 hours rather than every 4-5. I just try to eat higher protein, higher fat. Keeps me satisfied a little longer. If I manage to stay under maintenance, great, but I'm out of calories at the end of the day and I'm hungry I'm still going to grab that last snack.

It doesn't set me back enough to be worth obsessing over it.

I have never heard of a woman having period cravings.

It's true. It's usually the semi-colon or exclamation point that we crave.

When I did still have a period (TY "no off week" birth control), I actually craved beans. All the time. Kidney beans. Refried beans. Whatever.

I putt those stars in pictures where I feel I am VERY exposed. Its on the internet and the star makes me feel better haha! Makes sense in my mind so I do it.

The week before shark week is crazy for me. I lose all control and eat EVERYTHING!
  • During your cycle, your hormones are fluctuating, when on your period, your body is using more glucose (from sugar) to make energy to aid the process. This then makes you crave more sugary things.

Try some dark chocolate! It's not as offensive to the waist line:happy:

I haven't read through all of the replies, but OP it's totally ok and really in my case necessary to eat some chocolate - just go with super clean, organic dark chocolate and nibble a few pieces a day. I buy the Green & Black dark or dark/hazelnut bar, and eat 2-3 pieces a day during that TOM. Keeps my chocolate/sweets cravings at bay and helps me feel like I've had a treat.

Now, as far as craving all the other junk - I do too! And I feel more hungry! Those are harder cravings to ignore. :grumble:

Forgive me if this advice has already been posted!! :ohwell:

if you're gonna cave and give in to the cravings, eat GOOD chocolate. dont get the cheap stuff. it'll hit the spot with a lot less calories. couple bites of godiva vs a whole hersey bar? you do the math. ;)

I have no idea what the science is behind it, but you are not the only one who feels this way. My advice, find something chocolate, that isn't too bad in terms of fat/cals and just eat it. If you deny yourself, you are setting yourself up for failure.

Wait until you enter into the perimenopausal phase of life, and TOM is paying you more then one visit a month. It sux!!!
