Lean Mass

Alright, so I found out my lean mass and my fat mass. I'm 5'2 female, 107 pounds. My lean mass is 84 pounds and my fat mass is 23 pounds. Okay, to be completely honest, I have only know that lean mass is how much my organs and all weigh and the rest is fat. Can someone explain to me what all this means? Lol, the one thing I don't know is this topic. And I refuse to lose 23 pounds cause I would look sick :indifferent: My main goal now is to lower my body fat and start seeing more definition all around my body.

Well. First off, if your information is based on a handheld device or scale, it's junk info. Much better off just looking in the mirror than trying to interpret results that average +- 8% error.

Second, women have a baseline body fat around 12% for bodily functions. You can look great with abs and such even ~20%. So even if the results are about right, you should look in the mirror for guidance.

Third, if those are your pictures, you're seem to be in great shape and it would make sense to focus on athletic performance or strength gains, rather than cutting weight.

What is it you're confused about? Lean mass is everything that's not fat (including muscle).

Are you asking how much fat mass you should aim for?

I think the big thing with knowing your LBM, is it's a good way to figure out your macro splits (mostly how much protein you should be eating). My bf% is around 17% and my LBM is around 97lbs, so I aim to eat at least 97g of protein a day.

You already look very lean. So…if I were you, I wouldn't focus on losing any more body fat…I'd focus on increasing your LBM. So…eat at maintenance and lift heavy. I bet you will love the results.
And….when you LBM goes up, your total body fat % will go down without actually losing any more fat.

According to your numbers, you are already at 21% body fat…that's relatively lean and with your lean mass being what it is…I bet you would not be happy with the aesthetic results if you lost more fat right now.

So you are about what 21% bf..congrats..well done, perhaps another 2% and you will see what you want to see....

That is a great number for a woman...

Keep in mind you have to have some bodyfat or you die....

    Suggestion start lifting some weights.
  • thanks everyone, defiantly going to take what you guys said into consideration. I'm not looking to lose weight. I'm just looking to lower my body fat. I really want to start to lift already, but no money for a gym membership yet.
