I ran 8 miles!! 76 days ago I couldn't even run a mile without stopping and yesterday I ran 8 miles. This goal of doing a half marathon seems quite feasible at this point. And I am enjoying it when I have always hated running. It's an amazing feeling, a very natural high that I couldn't have done without starting this weight loss journey
hopefully everyone else has a fabulous day

That is so cool! I would like to run a marathon someday. My dad's family are all runners, the Running Rodgers... Unfortunately I have been advised not to run because of my knees.
Good luck on your marathon!! I am sure with your determination you will do great!0 -
That's awesome! I've been thinking about picking up running, but honestly, I'm scared. How much weight did you lose before starting? What did you weigh when you started running? How long before you could run one mile straight? Did you/do you run every day? Sorry about all these questions, lol. I would really love hearing from someone who has done it successfully before me.0

That's great news!!! I am so verry proud of your progress! I picked up running this year. I am nowhere NEAR 8 miles, but I am able to run for 3 minutes in a row for the first time since I was 20 years old! That is a major NSV! THe more you force change on your ody, the more it adapts to the change! Good job!

So I started running (non successfully) when I was about 225. When I look back I realize why I was unsuccessful and it didn't have to do with my weight, but my pace. I always tried to run fast and then I would tire out quickly.
I would do 5k's and be alright-- but I had no pattern, I would run until exhaustion, walk until I could breath and then run until exhaustion again. This isn't healthy. I wouldn't really use the intervals and I never trained.
This last time when I started running and have become successful I was about 190. I started out with an intro program that started with intervals- As much as I didn't want to do them, I forced myself to. It started out like walk 2 minutes, run 3 minutes. You can start smaller if you need to tho. I started out running slow, where it didn't hurt my lungs to run. My legs were never really ever tired because I am used to working out, but my lungs would surrender first.
It took me 2-3 weeks to be able to run a mile- and that was because I bundled up and went outside. For me even in the cold, snow, rain, it is better than that treadmill-- I can get distracted by paying attention to cars, sidewalks, etc. I think I could have gotten there sooner had I forced myself outside.
I workout 6 days a week usually (i know, I am crazy) but I enjoy it. But I only run 3 days a week-- 2 days where I would do interval running and 1 day where I go on a longer run. I joined a running group so sometimes I run a 3rd day during the week now and I do my long run with them. Now after 11 weeks, I only do the interval running if I am on the treadmill because I hate that machine.
Feel free to add me, I started a blog about my experience running0 -

I have been involved in half marathon training programs before and I always love the excitement from first timers when they start building to mileage that is greater than anything they have done before. Great job and god luck in continuing your training! How soon is your half?0
