Losing Motivation.

For the past few weeks I have been really good with exercising and such.

However, this week and for the foreseeable future I am not going to have much free time at all and already am starting to feel constantly lethargic.

How do you motivate yourself to exercise when you are already knackered all the time?

    I don't motivate myself.

    I just do it because it's what I do. Even if I"m tired. Or had a long day.

    It's monday. Monday is dead lift day. So monday's I go dead lift.

    Tuesday- tueday is chest day- so I go do chest. because it's chest day.

    Not because I love my workouts- and not because I'm pumped to do it. I do it because I must.

    period. emotions do not dictate to me when I do my work.

    I am not sure what you mean by not much free time, but I can tell you. That there are awesome cardio video's that are 25-30 min. long now days. (px90-t25) you can do weights right from home or a local gym.

    Time is what you make of it. You can do exercises in the car. You can also loose weight with out exercising its up to you on what you want to look like in the end.

    When time is short I set my alarm an hour early and get it done while the city is still asleep.

    The key is to find exercise you enjoy doing and can see yourself keeping up long term.

    Also, ensure you are eating enough to fuel your workouts. Your diary is closed so we can't see what you're eating but often people burn out after a few weeks on an intense diet and fitness regime because they're working out too much and not eating enough to support it.

    I make time as it's not work for me it's fun...it relieves stress, makes me happy, helps me sleep and best of all makes me strong.

    If it's something that is important to you, you will make time for it.

    I found that I really had to push myself hard to go in the beginning and after about 2 weeks of consistency, I didn't want to miss a day at the gym.

    I do it because of how I feel after working out, because I am committed and will
    Find a way to make time. If you're short on time do 30min but make those 30 min count.

    I get tired when I haven't worked out recently. That's normal. I personally do not have experience with not having enough free time. I am lucky that I have abundant free time. It allows me to work out a lot more than many of my peers and still lead a rich home life. I do not know how really busy people do it.

    Just as we MUST work to live, we MUST be active to live, this is my mantra.

    We all get tired from day to day activities, work, school, family, but because we must do and take part in these things to live, we do. Why should the mentality be any different when it comes to our own personal health? Treat it as a priority, treat yourself as a priority and go out and do it, and then rest when you are done.

    I know what being busy is all about because I'm taking a full course load, volunteering 5-10 hrs/week, plus working a few hours a week. Like some other people mentioned... I find waking up earlier and going to the gym works for me. Will I get up at 5:30 am to go to the gym (which is on campus so it's like going to school early) yes. Will I get up at 5:30 to do homework? No. So I don't leave my work out til after school and work at 4-5 pm because I will make excuses not to exercise because I have to do homework. The moral of the story is.. find a time that works for you. Also helps to change your attitude towards working out... do you have fitness specific goals? (unrelated to weightloss like I wanna lift x amount or I want to run x minutes/distance) Also... I like to see my work out time as "me" time. I watch tv, listen to music. Instead of netflixing in bed for 30 mins I get on the elliptical and watch tv for 30 mins. If you're tired you'll be tired for the first 5 mins and then as your heart gets pumping you'll get into it - the hardest part is starting the work out.
  • Whenever I feel like not working out I ask myself if I would skip a shower because I didn't have time, or not brush my teeth, or not eat...Working out is just as necessary to taking care of yourself as all of those things for me, so sometimes readjusting your perspective on whether or not it's required can be really helpful! I also have a motivation wall (mine is electronic on Pinterest) that I use to remind myself of why I started when I feel unmotivated! It includes pictures, words of encouragement, some science stuff (what one pound of fat versus one pound of muscle looks like) etc. If you remember why you are doing this, even when it is hard, it can be helpful to keep yourself motivated :smile:

    What are your goals? How important are they to you? How important is your health and your future to you? Revisit those goals. Do what you can today and let tomorrow worry about itself. If your goals line up, you will do what you need to do each day to reach for them.

    I have little quotes that I change up every few months or so that I post in my workout area, on the fridge, and on the pantry to give me a little inspiration and remind myself of what I'm working for. Just little things like a great quote or watching someone's result video on youtube gets me in the right head space again.

    If its important to you, you will make time. It really is that simple. That said there are ways to make it easier on yourself.

    1. Workout in the morning? I tend to find excuses accumlate during the day when I plan it for the evening.
    2. Take a class. When its unstructured and on my own I tend to go wimpy or go short. This also keeps me on a schedule.
    3. Have a workout buddy. I have a girl at work who does 2 of the classes with me. She asks me in the mornings if I have my gear.
    4. Take a walk or take the stairs more. Exercise doesn't have to be on a machine or to music. Its about moving more and sitting less. Get off the bus a few blocks early. I used to have a girl who would take hour long walks with me 3 times a week. We chatted, it was fun.
    5. Find little things that are enjoyable to do. I hate lunges. I don't do them. I love deadlifts. I will do them during a commercial for the sheer fun of it.
    6. Consider exercise like you would a medical prescription. Its not optional, its necessary.
    7. Schedule it in your day planner. Literally. I prelog my exercise for the week in MFP. If I don't do it I have to consciously decide not to do it and erase it.
    8. Find a neighbor with a dog and offer to walk it if you don't have one yourself.
