I noticed today that the numbers for Denny's Banana Pecan Pancakes don't really add up. I thought maybe someone here could shine some light on the subject. Here are the nutrition facts from their website:

Banana Pecan Pancake Breakfast: 780 cal

Egg Whites: 50 cal (2)
Turkey Bacon: 50 cal (2)
Buttermilk Pancakes: 320 cal (2)

If you total up the components, the total is 420 cal, not the 780 on the website. I can't imagine that a banana and some glazed pecans would be 350 calories. Thoughts?

Well a banana is at least 100 calories. Pecans are calorie dense - then you add sugar, butter and whatever to glaze them - and I think you can easily to get the remaining 250 calories. Looking in the database a 1/4 cup of glazed pecans (which is a pretty small serving) is at least 150 - so to get to an extra 100 calories would be super easy.

Denny's adds in the syrup and other condiments they serve with it. That's another 100 cals just for the little cup of syrup.
  • I didn't realize that they included the cup of syrup in that one. It makes a little better sense now I suppose.
