Hi people, i have never ever been on a diet but now the time has come for me to go for it. I need your help big time, ive always ate what i wanted and done minimal excercise. Now i really want to start eating healthier and excercising more. I've bought some diet whey to hopefully help me but really dont know what to eat with this or what i shouldn't eat with this. If anyone can help me i would be so pleased. Many thanks Darren.

The biggest thing to remember is you can eat whatever you want, you just have to pay attention to portions and timing. I love oreos, I don't eat half a box at once, but I can have a couple as a treat.
Focus on what you CAN eat, not what you can't. Don't think in the terms of "diet" or eventually you will want to be off it. You need to make sustainable changes. You may want to start with small goals...cut soda (sugary drinks one week), work on a healthy snacks the next (fruit and vegetables), work on drinking more water, more sleep, etc etc. These are changes that will help towards your weight loss goals and towards a healthy life. (Also avoid alternative sweeteners as they often make you crave more)
Most of ALL...TRACK, TRACK, TRACK!!! When I track everything I eat, I lose. When I don't, I gain. Track what you eat and soon you will find snacks you like that fill you up and are lower in calories. Things like oatmeal, greek yogurt, lean meats, fruits and veggies, eggs and so much more that are worth every calorie because they fill you up and give energy. (Things that are low carb often tend to be lower in calories...meats, low-fat dairy, vegetables)
Also know your body. I tend to eat more in the evenings so I learned over time that I need to eat a lighter breakfast and lunch so I have enough calories for my supper. There is a lot of great information on the forums, but always remember it is about you. Some say don't weigh everyday (I do because that works for me)...some say eat a big breakfast (I'm a big fan of meat and potatoes for supper so I eat light earlier in the day so I can still do this in moderation)...know yourself, know your body and you will succeed.

This was covered somewhat but I want to reiterate this point - vegetables are very low in calories, fats and sugars usually. Start to keep track of how much bang you get for your buck, volume wise. 200 calories of chocolate is nothing next to 200 calories of say bell peppers. You can have it all, but not in equal proportions.
Tracking is extremely helpful.0 -
If you want some ideas, google the DASH diet and read up on it. You'll get a lot of good ideas on what to eat, plus ideas on portions. Write down everything you eat -- that's more important than anything else, I think. It keeps you honest with yourself, keeps you focused. And if you eat something you really want that is maybe not a good choice, you can just balance it out over the next couple of days with more healthy choices.0

don't make this a diet.
Track everything you eat and do your best to stay within your calories goals for the day. In time you will learn which foods are more filling and cost you less calories. Just TRACK everything and keep your eyes on the prize!0 -
Thank you all for your kind feedback and replies. I will track, track, track. Many thanks and good luck to you all.0
