Meal replacements

Hi everyone looking for a bit of advice?
I am looking into buying some form of meal replacement to get me started on shifting a lot of weight.

I know a lot of people don't like them and think eating smaller meals is easy but I do have issues with food so I am looking to use meal replacements to cut out the whole calorie counting etc that confuses me and puts me off.
I am the type of person that needs to see some form of result quickly or I lose interest and I though meal replacements would give me that quick boost to keep me focused

I have been looking into a few different ones slimfast seems to be the cheapest and I have a few people pushing the body by vi which is a bit pricey.

What meal replacement is good for keeping you fuller for longer and which has the best loss rate and of course finance is always a factor

Any help and advice would be appreciated, but please don't tell me to just eat smaller meals or diet I know all that and I am trying something different

A (bottled) shake is just water with protein powder and added sugars for flavoring, nothing more.

You don't need to eat smaller meals. Eat what ever you want as long as it DOES NOT put you over your calorie limit for the day.

If you really are hell-bent on a shake I suggest getting a quality protein powder from GNC, like Optimum Nutrition / Myofusion Elite which is my favorite due to it's thickness and tastes more like a milkshake / or Cellucor. And don't forget the shaker bottles to mix it all up.
  • Thanks for the advice I'll look into the one you suggested...
I really am just trying something different I just don't want to get the wrong one that will ruin the experience.. I want a meal replacement that is going to leave me feeling fullest

I second the advice to just make your own with protein powder. But maybe also take a daily multivitamin. Do you have PB2 where you live? I find that a scoop of protein powder and a tablespoon of PB2 leaves me quite filled for a while. Even moreso if you make it with some unsweetened Almond Milk. It comes to maybe 210-250 calories (depending on the protein powder you buy).

You'll have better and longer-lasting results by learning how to incorporate real food into your weight-loss plan. I've lost over 10 pounds in the last couple of months (including a few weeks off for vacation) and I don't eat like a rabbit. Meal replacements don't teach you good habits, they're highly processed and they often taste pretty awful.

The GNC 25 protein shakes are quite tasty. I have been drinking those mixed with 8 oz. of almond milk for breakfast and lunch. For snacks, I still have some fruit and plain greek yogurt. Then I just eat what I want for dinner, but try not to over eat.

PB2 is AMAZING! I ate so much of it last night.

Check out myoatmeal.com ..... they have their own PB2 called PBLean but you can flavor it yourself and add in things! It's epic!
  • Just done a quick search and pb2 seems to be imported from USA so is a little pricey there is something called pbb? Not sure on the difference will check it out layer but that seems reasonably priced and is in the uk?

I noticed the difference in prices of meal replacements can't work out why the likes of slimfast I can get three weeks worth for £12 where as some others are £24 a week..? Does price reflect the products outcome I don't understand all the ingredients or what's even needed in them, I just went a decent product for a reasonable price

The top ingredients of SlimFast is sugar, sugar, and oil. Sugar and oil are cheap. I bet you already have those in your house. The top ingredients in protein powders are typically proteins. They're more expensive.

I make my own breakfast smoothies. Raw spinach, water and a spoon of vanilla protein powder in a blender. It has hardly any calories and is quite filling! Alternatively, Almond milk, one weetabix and a spoon of protein powder in the blender and again very little calories.

I am using occassionally Herbalife Vanilla breakfast shakes, but frankly they are expensive and I can get more from one of the above!

    Best of luck
    Stef.

I use a scoop of vanilla or chocolate protein powder in about 4 ounces of water with one cube of ice. I then use this as a milk substitute in a cup of high fiber cereal, which helps give my stomach a "mechanical fullness" . It totals about 230 calories and has almost 30 grams of protein and 30 grams of fiber in the serving.

You also might want to look at Quest bars if you can get them- not a bad meal substitute. I like the all natural cinnamon roll flavor
  • Thanks for all the info guys it's defo been a good help... I'm going to purchase a protein mix at the weekend and I really like the idea of those weetabix smoothies!
