Liftin and cardio

I have a question cause I need to get back on track. I first off do Zumba both land water and also lift in there 3 land and 2 water classes. I also do elliptical 2-3 miles 5 days a week. Okay here my schedule usually M,W,Thur zumba classes and try and get 3 miles on elliptical. I do have lifting schedule set but trying to figure out if on my zumba days I should back of on cardio and maybe get some lifting in there. Then on the other days go higher on cardio. I do also swim almost 5 days a week doing laps.
I am stuck to the elliptical cause I have a bad knee and the other on had a knee replacement so me and the dreadmill don't like each other. I also want to try rowing but not sure if I have enough bend in my bad knee for it. I feel I should be lifting at least 3 days a week but only doing 2 and feel like a slacker. Please help. Any positive feed back would be great.:grumble:

I didn't fully follow what you are saying. Maybe do cardio every other day and lift on the non-cardio days. There is no need to spend several hours every day on cardio. With the exception of my long run, I rarely spend more than an hour a day exercising.

    Me neither.

I got very confused and gave up.

    ETA: Don't overdo the cardio

Your post is a little disjointed. Perhaps it would be easier if you laid out your schedule like:
    Monday: Swim 500m, water aerobics
Tuesday: Weights 45mins, eliptical 30 mins.
    etc

I will offer a couple of pieces of advice though. For cardio, as long as you are working hard enough (anywhere between a mild puff/pant through to really hard workout) you are doing your body good - burning some calories and improving your cardio vascular fitness to some degree.

You certainly dont have to run or use the rower if you dont want to (and in your case it is probably advisable not to!). Even if all your cardio exercise is done in the pool - not a problem at all! The only reason you might want to change it up is if you want the variety or to try something new.

As for your lifting, three sessions will usually be better than two, but it comes down to a matter of compliance. If you enjoy being in the weight room then find a way to fit in another session, if it is a chore and you'd rather be doing cardio as you find it more enjoyable, then you can get by on two sessions as long as you have a reasonable lifting program to follow.

I would say that you should make your lifting the first activity you do for the day, as you will gain the most benefit from putting the bulk of your energy into this task.

As for whether you can do weights and cardio on the same day or should alternate it, that comes down to a mix of personal preference, energy levels and personal time management.

Hope that helps a little, if you want some more advice on the details of your schedule please post as above and I'll try to help out.

Sorry about the confusing post. What it comes down I love my elliptical and zumba lifting just not putting them in and order that works for me. I just need to reset my own schedule and get my a@@ in gear the right way. Thank you all by the way.
