i've never eaten a macaron before, but i've always wanted to make them because i love how beautiful they are. and it's just ridiculous how french they look. i mean come on.
I need this.
I'm in the same boat--never had one but find them mesmerizing. I seriously couldn't contain myself while I looked up more macaron pictures.
Anyone willing to take requests and let me live vicariously through your baking adventures?
Not to sure where you guys live, but I'm sure there's a bakery near you. I highly suggest trying them before you make them.
This is the first batch I made.
They *look* right, but they tasted like garbage! hahaha
Proper macarons have a crunchy exterior and chewy interior. The cookies tend to pick up the flavor of the filling so I don't eat mine until the day after I make them. They taste soooo much better. The cookie itself has a nutty flavor. They're pretty sweet since it's mostly sugar but you can cut down the sugar a bit (that's what I do). :flowerforyou:

CHOCOLATE COCONUT CARAMEL BARS
INGREDIENTS
1 cup unsalted butter, melted (2 sticks)
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 cups (12 3/4 oz.) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (2 oz.) unsweetened natural cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup caramel bits or chopped caramel candies
1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup + 1/4 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line an 9-by-13-inch baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper, spray with cooking spray; set aside.
2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter, about 1 minute. Allow the butter to cool for one minute. Add the egg, sugars, water, vanilla, and stir or whisk vigorously to combine.
3. Add the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt and stir until just incorporated. Fold in the caramel bits.
4. Reserve about 1 cup dough; set aside. Turn remaining dough out into prepared pan, smoothing it lightly with a spatula. Mix 1/2 cup coconut with the sweetened condensed milk. Pour sweetened condensed milk mixture over the top of the dough. Using your fingers or a small cookie dough scoop, lightly crumble the reserved cookie dough over the top in marble-sized chunks. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup coconut over the top.
5. Bake for about 27 to 30 minutes, or until center is mostly set and the coconut is golden brown. The sweetened condensed milk should nearly be set in all places, but possibly a little loose in the very center of the pan is okay. Bars firm up more in pan as they cool; don't overbake because you want these to stay soft and gooey.
6. Allow bars to cool in pan for at least 3 hours before slicing for the cleanest cut marks (use foil overhang to lift out).
7. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir. Melt in 10 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted. When fully melted, place in a small Ziploc bag, snip the corner, and drizzle chocolate over the bars.
8. Extra bars will keep airtight at room temperature for up to 1 week, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.0 -

These are Deb's Favorite Brownies, and they are mine too. One Bowl, 30 minutes and you have heavenly homemade brownies. I have to be totally honest, every time I made homemade brownies prior to these, I wished I had saved myself the trouble and made them from a box. But these, truly are the only Brownie Recipe you will ever need:

3 ounces (85 grams) unsweetened chocolate, roughly chopped
1 stick (4 ounces or 115 grams) unsalted butter, plus extra for pan
1 1/3 cups (265 grams) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt or 1/4 teaspoon table salt (about 2 grams)
2/3 cup (85 grams) all-purpose flour
Heat oven to 350°F. Line an 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment, extending it up two sides, or foil. Butter the parchment or foil or spray it with a nonstick cooking spray.
In a medium heatproof bowl over gently simmering water, melt chocolate and butter together until only a couple unmelted bits remain. Off the heat, stir until smooth and fully melted. You can also do this in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each. Whisk in sugar, then eggs, one at a time, then vanilla and salt. Stir in flour with a spoon or flexible spatula and scrape batter into prepared pan, spread until even. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out batter-free.
Let cool and cut into desired size. If you’re like me, you will prefer these and all brownies, cold or even frozen. But I bet you’re normal and will just eat them hot from the pan. If desired, dust the brownies with powdered sugar before serving.0 -

I am seriously lazy. The only cookie that I make is a gluten-free peanut butter cookie. Only 3 ingredients:
1 cup peanut butter (I prefer creamy, but I've done chunky)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
Delicious and gluten-free. Actually made them for years before someone pointed out that they were gluten-free. LOL! Not that I concern myself with gluten, but maybe someone here with that dietary restriction could make some use of it.

Crack Brownies
Prepare 1 package of brownie mix according to the package directions. Coat a 9x13 baking dish and bake in the oven, also according to package directions (20-25 minutes).
Spread the following over the top of the brownies
1/2 cup salted peanuts
1 cup Reese's peanut butter cups, chopped (I use mini's)
2 cups miniature marshmallows
Return to the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for an additional 5 minutes, or until the marshmallows begin to puff and brown and the chocolate begins to melt.
In a medium bowl, combine:
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
Microwave on high for 1 minute and stir until melted and creamy.
Add 2 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and stir until completely coated with the chocolate-peanut butter mixture.
Pour mixture evenly over the brownies.
Refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours before serving.

Chocolate Mint Brownie Cookies
1 1/2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
2/3 cup Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
OR 2/3 stick Crisco® Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups Pillsbury BEST® All Purpose Flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups (12 oz. pkg.) andie mint pieces
HEAT oven to 375°F.
COMBINE brown sugar, shortening, water, vanilla and peppermint extracts in large bowl; beat at medium speed until well blended. Add eggs; mix well.
COMBINE flour, salt, cocoa and baking soda in medium bowl; add to shortening mixture. Beat at low speed just until blended. Stir in andie mint pieces
DROP dough by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
BAKE 7 to 9 minutes or until cookies are set. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheets; transfer to cooling racks to cool completely.
Well I make these a lot bigger then recommended and use an ice cream scoop and bake for 12 mins.
I also will make these as chocolate peanut butter cookies and use peanut butter extract instead of peppermint and use reece pieces instead of the andie's mints.0 -
