If a carbohydrate counts as 4 calories, then how does Truvia get away with saying that each packet contains 3 grams of carbohydrates, but 0 calories. Shouldn't there be 12 calories per packet? I'm confused.

    It's calorie-free, because you do not digest it. It's simply there for taste.

    Truvia contains 3 g of erythritol per packet.

    Erythritol is a sugar alcohol, so while it is a carbohydrate it does not have the same number of calories per gram as do 'regular' carbohydrates. It contains 0.2 calories per gram, so 1 packet of Truvia would have 0.6 calories. They are permitted to print 0 calories since it is less than 1 calorie per serving.
