Starting the Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet...

Hi all.
On Wednesday, I'm starting the Martha's Vineyard detox diet. This is a fasting juice diet.
I completed a 21 day detox 6 years ago, so this will be my 2nd attempt.
I'm now 32, and weigh 185 lbs. My goal weight is 160 lbs, eventually. I'm hoping the detox will jump start me on my way to my goal weight.
I found during the last detox, posting my progress online helped me stay focused and on track... you I plan to make daily updates.

Better prepare yourself for an onslaught of "why" on the thread then. There aren't too many fans of detoxing here - the body does it just fine on its own....0

I'm going to grab some popcorn.

Do you get to drink wine????0

I do not understand the point of this.0

Oh fun. Sunday night entertainment.
OP- don't do this nonsense. Eat at a moderate deficit. Move around. Rinse, Repeat.0 -
If by juicing you mean wine, then I am in.0

Enlighten me...what makes the Martha's Vineyard Detox better than any other detox? My Google is broken. :flowerforyou:0

uh huh0 -
I'd happily "detox" on grape juice. Fermented grape juice.
Of course, i'd need some cheese to go with it.
Maybe a nice steak...0 -
I only recommend this detox if it involves wine.0

Um...what?!?!0

I looked it up on Google - found this review on WebMD:The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox promises to peel off a pound a day and rid your body of toxins. But is it a good idea, given that your body detoxes itself, regardless of what you eat?
On the plan, you drink liquid every two hours, take supplements that have a laxative effect, and do enemas.
In the next couple of paragraphs it mentions the "organic coffee enemas".
So yeah, I have heard of this one, awhile back in another thread here on the boards from someone looking for that "jump start" or quick fix" to lose a bunch of weight fast.
Coffee goes in your mouth, not the other end. Log it with other, normal food, eating at a deficit, drinking plenty of water, and doing some exercise. The body "detoxes" itself, assuming your liver, kidneys and other organs are functioning properly.
Temporary changes will get you temporary results. Eat real food. Exercise. Drink water, get good sleep, take rest days. Enjoy a cup of coffee by mouth. And make healthy changes you can do for life, not fad diets that make empty promises and want you to shoot caffeinated liquids up your butt.

Now, that's a detox.
Oh, maybe add some cheesecake . . .0 -
Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet, Is that the one where you go to Martha's Vineyard, surround yourself with politicians vacationing from DC, listen to every word they have to say, and then repeatedly puke your guts out?
Sounds fun.
Rigger0 -
You really don't need to detox. Just put raspberry keytones on all your food and that will kickstart your liver function:flowerforyou:0

how about just not eating for a few days to "jump start" your weight loss.
or would that just be silly?0 -

No clue here either.

Do not get discouraged by some of the posts on this forum. If it helps you to jump start things than why not?
The only thing I would probably do is to have a good look at your "normal" diet and perhaps tweak things a bit so that you can keep your weightloss and not gain it back.
Best of luck and keep us updated.

Because daily laxatives and weekly enemas are not appropriate for anyone who isn't constipated. Enemas are for constipation...or colonoscopies....lol or buttsecks. (Too crude?)
Because "21 pounds in 21 days" , which is how it's marketed, isn't possible or healthy unless your start weight is over 400 pounds.
Because the large majority of people who lose pounds with crazy laxative enema plans put the weight back on as quickly as it came off. (You may think you're different and special and will be one of the few who manages to keep it off...but don't you think everyone thinks that when they start?)
Why not...eat food, log your calories, try to be in a caloric deficit most days? That's GOT to be easier, more pleasant, and more delicious than liquid diets and enemas.0 -

^^^^^ all of this
people are trying to discourage the OP from doing this for a reason...... that reason is because people care about the OP's physical and mental health. Sometimes caring is telling someone that what they're about to try is a really, really, really bad idea.0 -

Yeah, and if all the other kids are jumping off the bridge, why not? It's just a bridge, and it's your life, after all. :flowerforyou:0 -

I'll share!
