exercise help

hi guys.
I have really bad problems with my knees. i know this is mostly weight related but its effecting my exercise regime. I tried today doing squats with a small kettle bell but only after doing 7 my right knee hurt so bad on the inner side that i had to stop and i didnt want to risk long term injury that could effect my work and my other exercise. I currently run on the treadmill and work on arms with small weights and kettle bells.
and advice would be great =) also looking for more friends so feel free to add x

You might want to go see a doctor. Although it could be an issue with your form, you might want to work with a physical trainer.

I'm not a medical expert but when my knees hurt, I see my chiropractor. I've been fortunate that it's just muscles, ligaments and tendons that have needed stretching in the quad area.
  • i just keep getting put on anti inflammatory's and told to lose weight then shown the door. i live in uk (not sure about you guys) and in the worst part for medical issues (Wales) i cant really afford a personal trainer as we have too many bills and saving goals but it may be something i work towards at a later date if/when money becomes more readily available. Saying that i live in a small town in north wales and we dont really have much up here for us haha but thanks for words of encouragement xx

Have you thought about a knee brace just while you're exercising? Should provide some extra support.
  • Hey I have a couple of questions for you.
Do you have problems when you run on the treadmill with your knees hurting?
Did it just burn because you were exciting the muscles or was it just straight pain? Have you felt it doing other exercises before?

Check out bodybuilding.com for some articles about kettle bells. There is a lot of information about proper lifting forms and exercises to do with them. There is tons of info and videos to watch which should help you if you want to lift properly but cant get to a trainer. I shattered my kneecap and I know I tend to be very weary about what I do which makes my form a little weaker with that leg. See if reading any of the articles help and maybe choose a lighter weight to start with?

    Hope this helps :)

Have someone-a friend-another gym user-check your form for squats. Are you going back enough? Are your feet positioned correctly?

hi there, when I started this journey I was in a similar boat but it's gotten better. I have an extra bone in my knee caps that gives me a lot of trouble. What I found was I had to be careful to do just enough that they got some work but not so much that I did damage. It made the process slower but I refocused my efforts elsewhere. I've also found that I have better results on my body by doing the 7min workout. It's 12 workouts for 35 seconds with a 10 second break in between. It's quick, works all the muscles without overdoing it. I started with just one workout a day and a 20min walk, now I've worked my knees up to doing walking and 1min intervals of 6mph six times a day and two 7min workouts per day. Good luck with your journey. I'll send a Friend Request and will cheer you on!
  • hey guys sorry went to bed so missed alot of your great responses =) i dont feel it on the treadmill an it was more of a pain than a burn. it was like a taring pain which i didnt feel was good! and i kinda feel it wasnt rite as was only on right knee. today im feeling burn! can hardly walk =( so glad i aint working! I am going to look into a leg brace and maybe not do any more squats until ive lost some weight so there is less strain. that leg is week and have been told i may have grit or sumin in there after i couldnt walk once for 6 weeks but again health care here dont follow up anything and there were no conclusive tests. x
