Showering at the gym

I spent 5 years in the Navy on an aircraft carrier...I can tell give you a few tips about sharing showers lol.
My biggest thing is shower shoes! Cheap, $2 flip-flops from Walmart or the Dollar Store. I never barefoot it in the locker room...that is just nasty to me lol.
With your towel and underwear, I always just flipped mine over the shower rod on the boat. It might get a little wet, but won't get soaked.
pretty much this.
shower shoes- use the door- do a quick once over and use your towel to dry- then wrap and walk back to your locker.
I've also just gone for a bite to eat as is- throw on deodorant and call it what it is. I wouldn't go meet guests or crazy dinner parties- but I don't mind stopping for a meal with a friend in my funktastic state. it is what it is and don't worry about it.0 -
Unless you are going to wear the flip flops over your nose , I'm thinkin they aren't going to prevent legionnaires disease. lol0
-
OP You are totally over-thinking this. Totally.
Just bring your towel and throw it over the shower door (or put it on a hook if there are some). When you're done showering, grab the towel dry off. Wrap the towel around yourself and walk to your locker. Change into your clothes and go.
Easy peasy lemon squeasy.
Oh, and definitely get shower shoes! You do NOT want to walk around barefoot in a locker room. Yucky!
ETA: You're lucky that your locker room and showers are clean. The showers and locker room at my gym is pretty nasty. I don't shower there unless I absolutely have to.0 -

Scurvy?0 -
Seems like too much dram to me.0

Legionnaires' disease is a bacteria that is gotten by breathing in a mist or vapor from a contaminated water source, not from stepping in it. It's also not contagious from person to person. Most healthy people that are exposed to it do not become ill. The flip flops will help prevent the spread of athletes foot fungus as long as you disinfect the flip flops as well, just spray some Lysol on them and let them air dry. It's funny how the older folks don't care. They walk out of the shower dripping wet, buck naked and sit on the upholstered chairs in the locker room at my gym. For that reason and productivity reasons, I try not to sit down at the gym.
To the female that started this post, I respect your modesty, it's rare today.0 -
Could you not forego the underwear under your towel then hang said towel over the door?0

I don't think being modest and practical are the same thing.0 -

Modesty because we bring a towel to the shower so we can dry off when we're done?
I'm far from modest but on the off chance that I am forced to shower at the gym I bring my towel with me so I can dry off. I wrap it around myself then go change by my locker.
That's right people. I drop the towel and stand naked in front of my locker while I change.
Can you imagine that? Someone naked in a locker room?? Woah.0 -
I think putting your underwear under your towel or in a plastic bag are good ideas. i can't believe there aren't any hooks! Being extremely self-conscious, I'd rather my underwear by a tiny bit damp rather than be naked in front of strangers in the locker room.0

With your towel wrapped around you, you slide your panties on underneath it.
And then towel still around you, pull your clasped bra over your head.
Then settle it and drop towel.
Now, you're in essentially non-waterproof bikini.
In fact, my bra/panties cover more than my bikini does so it really doesn't bother me.0 -
Their should be towel hooks , or put them on the corner of the door if you're worried.
I walk with a towel wrapped around and flip flops, noone really gives a toss what you look like in the womens changing rooms they are too busy thinking of their own bodies. This one time i brought a face cloth instead of a towel, i ended up having to dry off with a hairdryer (cause I never realised until after the place was empty and never thought about wrapping the towel, until after!)
This coming from a girl who used to wear their gym stuff into the shower and get changed there!0 -
Well I'm in Germany so maybe things are different but here the towels hang up near the door to the shower area and once you're finished showering you grab your towel and strut your stuff back to your bag where you get dressed. Wearing the towel during the strut across the changing room is optional.
Word. That's what I do.
Through the lobby.
Also, get flip flops, athlete's foot is a *kitten*.0 -
My gym has stalls which is a lot more privacy (a total plus) and makes it a lot more comfortable to shower at the gym. If you're comfortable enough with it, then go ahead and do it. be proud! You're going to the gym and worked up a sweat that's an accomplishment!0

I shower at the gym 5 days a week.
Yes hang your towel over the top of the door. It might get some splashes on it, but not enough to make it ineffective in drying you.
As for your underwear or anything else - I just wear the towel to the shower. I change at my locker and yes sometimes there are other women standing right next to me. I undress everything except my undies, then put the towel around me, then take my undies off. I reverse it when I'm dressing... with my towel still on I put on my undies then take the towel off and then get dressed. There's something about standing there stark naked that I can't do, but with only my undies on I'm ok LOL. You'll get used to it.0 -
As a guy, I also took 1/2 of a Viagra. Not that I wanted an erection, I just wanted to "look good"0

^^This is me, I grew up going to the pool and after a brief stint in high school where I covered up during changing, I realized I didn't care and no one else cared.
But to answer the OPs question. If there are no hooks available you can purchase a single hook to hang over the shower door, meant for over a normal door. (I actually have this at home).
I have seen some people use little baskets to store and hang their toiletries while in the shower. You can also get GoToob travel containers that will suction to the wall to hold shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc.0 -
Where a swim suit! That's what I would do in your situation.0

Yeah, I'm with this post. Modesty in a gym locker room isn't exactly necessary. No one is there to look at you. Then again, it could just be that showering with 50 other females in basic training makes this look very childish to me.0 -
I second buying some flip flops. I wouldn't walk with bare feet in a shower or locker area in a gym.
And why not shower there? Others do!
^ This. Flip flops are a must!!0
