Having Trouble Getting my heartrate up

Hi everyone.. I would like to think of myself in pretty much Optimal Shape.. My Dr. Told me I have the heart of an athlete.. I have been running for 3 years and I workout in general 6-7 days a week.. My resting hr today was 38.. and In both workouts I did today, Kickboxing (Tae Bo) and My Zumba class, I had an average Hr of 114.. What the heck.. I burned hardly any calories.. My heartrate monitor stap was just replaced this month and has been working just fine, I worked out Sat and Burned 426 calories in My tae Bo 50 minute workout, and Today I didn't even break 300.. Anyone dealt with these issues.. This happens to me quite often.. I burned 3400 calories last week in 5 days of exercise.. and today in 2 workouts I barely came above 500, which is what I normally burn in one hour workout.. Kinda frusterated.. I noticed the past few weeks I had to bump my running speeds up again to 7mph to reach a Heartrate of 150, but My Tae bo and Zumba normally leave me breathless.. Just looking for some imput.. I need to hit my burns.. Discouraging to work out double time and burn at half time : (

Hmmm that is weird to be honest. Have you tried getting on the treadmill with it at 7.0 speed and 4.5 incline?
Hmm caffeine or fat burner?
Edit: I have to get my heartrate up by going at 7.0. It just works better for me to be honest. I like to get mine up to 1750 -
Your max heart rate is YOUR max heart rate. It doesn't always go by the formulas. My husband also has a very low heart rate.
Make sure you are adjusting your heart rate monitor to what your real max is, not the formula and then see what it calculates.
If you HRM is set for a max that is way higher than your true max, the calculation will all be off.0 -
You may be in fantastic shape to get that heart rate or it could be bradycardia (slow heart rate). If its bothering you, have it checked out by the doctor.0

My resting HR is between 45-52 usually. I can't even warm up walking on the treadmill. At 3.6mph my HR doesn't break 100. You have to push yourself more. I did the stairmaster today on level 20 and got it up to 175. It will also get that high when I run at 8.5 or 9.0mph on the treadmill. As long as you get it above 120bpm you will be burning fat, 150+ will also be helping your cardio. And the better your cardio, the harder it is to raise your HR.0

I totally understand your frustration and have been meaning to search this exact topic!!! Been running for ten years, resting heart rate is 40. I can get it in the 130s on a medium effort jog outside. Treadmill takes much more.
AlsoI am a huge lover of the elliptical for in between running days and the past 2 weeks I've been noticing I have to go so intensely with the resistance just to get it to 120. Which equals barely ANY cals burned. NOT fair!!! I hope we can get some answers through this forum!0 -
What kinda heart monitor do you have?? I think that may be the problem... or you are in world class shape!!!
I have a Polar.. with strap.0 -
I have the same problem- I work my butt off in my boot camp classes and others in the class will burn 800-900 calories an hour, and my Polar will tell me 300-400 depending on the day. To get my heart rate over 130 I have to be going at least 6.0 on the treadmill for over 3 minutes..its frustrating, but knowing that your cardiovascular system is in great shape is better in the end than burning more calories now and being less healthy. That's how I try to look at it anyways, trust me I feel your frustration!0

I also have the Polar with the strap.. And I just replaced the strap for the first time a month ago because I hit the one year mark and I was not getting accurate readings, I do Believe I wore it out : ) I used it 6-7 days a week and 3-4 days I use it twice : )0 -
Thanks Everyone.. I do believe honestly its the great shape I am in, Internally : ) Its just tough because If I want to eat a few more calories, I feel like I have to triple the workout that other people have to do.. Oh well, I am healthy : )0

****Todays Update**********
Well I had a cup of coffee and some Peanut butter toast and 10 minutes later I hit the pavement for a run.. I had the heart rate at an average of 153 for the entire hour.. Maybe I just need caffine and Pb before I workout.. lol Plus I got caught in a downpour of rain, about 20 minutes out from home, I have to say, It was pretty amazing : )0 -
I'm so happy that others are having problems!
I thought it was my heart monitor too, but it's not!
I do HIIT and it takes more work to get my
Heart up there, and I burn less calories!
I know when I have a fat burner it is easier
To get it up there, but I really don't like to take
Them every day!0 -
I have the same problem. I am even obese, but have exercised regularly for years. I have a polar HRM with strap. I did a spin class today for the first time and I thought that this will really do it. Nope. After 55 minutes, I had only burned 299 calories. I was hoping for 500! My maximum heart rate was 147. And I felt like I was really working hard! For the most part I did everything the instructor did and was sweating like crazy! I was so disappointed.0
