*LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE*
I've been eating 500-1000 a day with great process. Exercising 5 days a week and I havent felt hungry or anything. No cravings. Its almost been a month since I started.
I want to know from those people who HAVE or ARE loosing weight on low calories, how is it?, did you keep it off?
Please if you are going to say something about slow metabolism/loosing muscle mass/gaining it back don't comment. Just want to hear how others have been doing something like this

That sounds like far to few calories to me. And looking at your diary i don't know how you cant be hungry eating just what your eating. Your working out also so im not surprised your seeing results. try to aim for 1200-1500?0

i reported as well.
promoting low calorie diets are against the MFP rules0 -
Why report me, what good does it do to you?
You are promoting unhealthy eating habits.
It doesn't do me any good, but it does a lot of harm to others on here that also have eating disorders.0 -
And why is that so?
Why report me, what good does it do to you?
Because you're promoting an unsafe method of weight loss. I've reported it as well.

There are impressionable young folks who read here. Nobody needs to encourage what you are doing. It's harmful to others.0 -

Sorry but that is never going to happen - if you are intent on doing this at least eat more protein and vegetables and fewer weight watchers bars.
Other than that you should be aware that MFP will ultimately lock this thread as promoting unsafe dieting practices.
In the meantime you will probably have lots of people telling you how unhealthy your diet is.
Sorry but no-one is going to be telling you what you want to hear.0 -
You can't stop people from commenting because you don't want to hear what they have to say. Eating that little is a very bad idea.
But you know that already, and you're going to do it anyways. So what exactly is the purpose of this thread? You are already doing it and losing weight. So it's not to ask people if they have lost weight. Is it to ask if they've kept it off?0 -
"promoting" - seemed the OP wanted to discuss experiences. A question to the OP would be how is your hunger level ? I have eaten low calorie a couple of times for a week, then reverted to my normal regime. I benefited from seeing what it was possible to do, and what it felt like. Hitting a low target requires discipline that is then helpful hitting any target.0

I'm not aiming for below 1000 but there are a few days where I'm just not hungry enough to get up to my goal and may dip under 1000... but only just.
With that said, I've been under 1200 almost every day for the past two weeks despite eating lots of decent, nutritious food. I have to eat calorie-rich foods (nuts, junk food *GASP*!) to get myself over the line. It's definitely not slowing my metabolism down and none of my extremities have dropped off.
I'm not suggesting what my appetite says to me is right for anybody else - I'm just sharing what is going on for me.0 -
Before joining MFP I was eating less than 1000 calories a day and exercising every day. Sure I was losing weight but I also felt weak and tired ALL the time. I didn´t feel hungry, like you mentioned but I didn´t feel GOOD either. It is not a good idea, you are hurting your body to lose weight quickly and it really isn´t worth it. You end up gaining everything back when you start eating normally again.
Not worth the trouble or risk to your well being.0 -

how about having nails that chip and split and wont grow... hair thats lank and dull and falling out and breaking when you brush it... bad skin thats pasty and grey and spotty and dry...0 -
Bulking up your meals with lots vegetables, salads and fruit will keep your calories low. I really don't think it is sustainable long term and you would be missing out on necessary nutrients especially at such a young age.0

I had a friend who did it and was really excited for a long while. Later she had to go in-patient for anorexia. There are psychological reasons not to go there, too, you see. For some folks, it's like trying heroin. Just don't do it.0

Firstly, I only eat one weight watchers bar but sometimes I add them because Ill snack on something that has the same amount of calories if Im on my phone.
No way am I promoting it, I want to know experiences? The REASON I want to hear experiences is because I know its not a good thing to do.
Thankyou to those who have something helpful to say! Off to the gym now so will read when I get back
hopefully the thread will be gone by the time you get back.
and how exactly is saying that you're having great results and not hungry not promoting? :laugh:0 -
I just find it bizarre that someone who wants to 'pursue a career in sport' is prepared to risk losing muscle mass like this.0

Agreed it is a useful exercise - for instance with the 5:2 diet and yes I've played around with that too - and you do have to be very disciplined - but that is two days at 500 and the rest of the week at maintenance. The OP is not talking about occasional days. Have a look at her diary.0 -
You have an ED0

I am on 800 - 1000 cals medically directed at the moment and I have to work very hard to get good nutrients in. And I am hungry! I'm on higher calories than you mention and to make sure I stay healthy I live in the kitchen!
I spend my days preparing good, high quality protein sources, preparing a vast array of vegetables and fruit and trying to get flavour in to them, having high quality fiber sources, making sure my calcium is in there, finding sources of good, helpful fats. On such low calories it is hard work!
Despite being on low cals my daily diary is as long as your arm!
Unless you are putting in that time and effort is is VERY hard to get all you need on such a low calorie range. You can eat protein bars and drinks and take a multi-vit but, our bodies are designed to get nutrients from our food and does it better that way.
You will be below target on everything, that's just not good.0 -
your not supposed to eat less than 1250 calories a day or your body will go into starvation mode and store fat, to lose weight you need to be eating between 1250 and 1500 a day but not junk food, healthy foods still have calories, and dont eat big portions eat little and often, i allow myself treats, and you also need to exercise or its totally pointless0

You have an ED
Are you a medical professional who is trained in diagnosing eating disorders?
I think not.
To the OP. there are so many people here who have had success while NOT eating less than 1200 calories, I do wonder why you want to do it this way when you know that it is not healthy.0 -
Prat.

I didn't report you, but I want you to know that you're asking for some health problems down the road like your hair falling out and yeast infections. Constant yeast infections. I know I speak from experience from not eating enough calories and exercising like a maniac. You're going to suffer from malnutrition. Some of the effects are your hair falling out and constant non curable yeast infections until you get your diet in check. This happened to me within 3 to 6 months of doing weight watchers (old point system) incorrectly. I learned the hard way. I'll never do that $h!t again.0

Speaking from experience, I ended up with an eating disorder.
When I was at 800 calories, I felt good for ages. Then I ended up exhausted. You'll be cold ALL THE TIME- even if you aren't even underweight. Your body will use up your muscles instead of your fat- that includes your heart. I get heart palpitations now, I didn't before.
You also can't get enough nutrition in on that amount of calories.
At one point I was so shaky I could hardly walk. And now I throw up what I eat.
Not saying you'll get an eating disorder, but it could happen. And the physical effects will happen if you continue at this calorie level. You will lose health and possibly friends. Possibly life.
Please eat at least over 1200- you'll be so much happier in the long run. And see your doctor if you get urges to restrict that low again.
Thank you Good luck x0 -
So you don't want to hear anything negative, know it is bad, but only want to hear positive stories from people who've done it.
Right.
For the record, yes I have. Crashed and burned, now fatter than ever.0 -
I have,I went on complete fitness spree, ate healthy and did tons of excersize..netting very few calories most days.
In the end I completely crashed and burnt, no energy, didn't get out of bed for three days apart from to go to store and buy food for a three day marathon feed..all hard work down the drain.
Oh, and a lot of my hair fell out, in handfuls...
It wasn't good.
The whole time I had tons of energy and never hungry.... shouldn't always listen to our bodies clearly.0
