unsweetened vanilla almond breeze with special k fruit and yogurt cereal is AMAZING. and wayyyyy less calories than milk! and tons of calcium. and i'm hooked!
But that "meal" would have very little protein. Milk typically has more calories because it has more protein.
yeah I see what you're saying about protein, but I have plenty of other protein throughout the day so for me personally it would be ok0 -
I use rice milk on a regular basis, but almond milk is also really good! Great in your breakfast, coffee, dinners etc! I use Rice milk just like I use to use regular milk!0

We love it. Give it a try in over night oats for a hearty breakfast.

It is my favorite of all milk type of products.
I buy it at Costco in the 3 pack and if I want chocolate milk, I mix it with chocolate. This ensures moderation.0 -
How does the price compare with regular old cow milk?
I pay 2.99 for a half gallon of Almond Milk from Save a Lot0 -
We LOVE the stuff. I am addicted to Dunkin's Iced Lattes but don't do skim milk, so I stared making my own at home with almond milk and now I can have three for the same calories as one and some days I really need the extra caffeine. It's great in smoothies, or cereal and it has more calcium than regular milk as well as healthy fats. I also like So Delicious Coconut milk, but I don't like the sweetened version and the unsweetened is hard to find around here.0

Currently sipping some in my coffee. Good and good for you!0

I love love love Almond Breeze...I use it in everything. I even use it to boost my calories and my calcium count.0
-
I've had it, it tastes more like vanilla to me... (it was the unsweetened one)
Still like normal milk better tho, but calorie wise almond milk is a win!0 -
I LOOOOOOOOVE the Dark Chocolate Almond Milk. SO good for a sweet tooth or chocolate craving. I've used it in my smoothies, too. Makes it even better!
Vanilla almond milk goes great with cereal, as well.0 -
It's not bad but I prefer regular milk0
-
Just started drinking it. The almond breeze unsweetened is very good. It is 30cal/cup. I make protein shakes with it.0
-
I've only used it for cooking. Works great.0

Almond Breeze Iced Coffee - Caramel Macchiato - 100 cal per cup! Woo hoo.0
-
love it! and it is easier on my tummy than regular milk.0
-
I love it... I am allergic to dairy and soy so it has been a life saver for me. Coconut milk is pretty good too!0

It is not only good for your health but it is also yummy. I drink Silk's Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (my fave) as a drink. I put it in smoothies, in my cereals, in recipes substituting milk, in my oatmeal. Everywhere!
And low calories: 30 cals per 250 ml.0 -
After hearing great things about it here, I bought some a year or so ago. It was horrible! I don't know what's wrong with me, as I obviously have different taste, but it didn't appeal at all. Maybe I should give it another try.0

The price is relatively good here, there was an offer in the supermarkets here where it was 3 cartons for £3 which is equivalent to $4.99. Normally it is not much more expensive than cows milk. However more likely to have offers as less people drink it (at least here)0

I use it for just about everything. I don't like cow milk...but occasionally have to buy it for certain cooking things. I buy the Silk light original almond milk. It still taste rich to me...but good.0

I think it equals out to be 2.50 per if you buy the three pack at Costco. The only issue is that they do not sell the unsweetened, but I am not on calorie restriction.0 -
There is pros and cons
Pros
Low cal
More calcium them milk
No Hormones
Some brands off No GMOS
NON flavored has low sugars
Gellan gum : a thickener that is made from bacterium (not linked to any harmful side effects )
No Lactose
Cons
Flavored types have ALOT of sugar
Some can have harmful Additives :
Carrageenan : reduced the activity of many sulfatase enzymes in intestines and causes inflammation in some people, also seen to cauase cancer in animals .
With that said : My family and I love nut milks of all types . We try to by Carrageenan free brads that are also GMO free. However Silk brand was bought out by Deans foods, I believe DEAN foods have questionable business practices ie: donated millions to stop Gmo transparency.0 -
I really like the vanilla unsweetened. its good to me and only 30 calories for a cup0

Love Almond milk but only Almond Breeze. I prefer the 30 cal Vanilla. The kids like the Silk but I find it to be way too sweet and weird tasting. We use it as a replacement to cows milks as some in our family can't do cows milk. When the kidos were younger we used to do hemp milk it had better nutritional value than cows milk. However with a houseful of two growing boys I go though 5-6 1/2 gallons a week so I can't afford the Hemp.
A really yummy alternative is chocolate hazelnut milk. OMG in a smoothie with a banana, chia seeds and nut butter... SO GOOOOOOD.
HAZELNUT milk?!?!? Where do I find it?
If you have a whole foods or Sprouts near you they have it. If your grocery store has a health food section they might have it. I used to get it though Amazon prime free shipping, plus as a scheduled delivery discount. I don't think it is a prime item anymore and when you calculate it the savings is not what it was. So now I order it though my food coop to get the savings. Here is a link to the one I get. http://www.amazon.com/Pacific-Natural-Foods-Non-Dairy-Containers/dp/B002BG38I2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392396022&sr=8-2&keywords=chocolate+hazelnut+milk0 -
I use it in my protein shakes (can't stand them with just water and almond milk is lower cal than milk). I also like the chocolate almond milk by itself, but that's high calorie and loaded with sugar. But yummy.0

Ok I never realized our almond milk contained Carrageenan. I am usually really good at reading the labels, I wonder if years ago it did not contain it. Sigh now I need to try a different brand.0 -
I love almond milk. I have pretty much used it as a dairy milk replacement. I drink it, eat cereal with it, cook with it...etc. Honestly I dont think I could go back to dairy milk. However, my brother hates it. So you may like it or not!0
-
Thanks for sharing. I didn't think about the bad things that could be in almond milk. I will have to start watching the labels.0
-
Never tried almond milk but have heard good things! What is it good with for low calorie snacks? Any tips?
Its a lot better if you make it yourself - almond and water. Too much chemicals in the ones from the store.0
