Hi all,
I am not too overweight but seeking to gain a healthier lifestyle. My choices are pretty healthy, however, I overeat.
There are times when I will overeat bread (in any form, wholegrain, white any!), cereals, biscuits, you name it, healthy or not healthy if it has CHO I overeat it. This isn't a rebound effect of banning carbs, I have just found, as soon as they sneak their way into my diet I overeat on them, especially when ill, bored, depressed.
I have found, what works for me in the past, is to be mindful all the time and unfortunately, I find complete avoidance of my binge foods helps, and the only thing that works. If I were to have a sandwich or cake, I would have it out, i.e. so not access to more when at home, and alone.
I'm now int he dilemma, I'm a mother, my motivation to look great has become much less than when I was single. I have more sleepless nights than I used to (admittedly, my little one is now a toddler and a pretty good sleeper, so things aren't that bad) and I have always loved to eat. I would eat until I felt ill, I'm ashamed to say. I don't drink or smoke and I think to some extent, food is my drug of choice.
As I said, previously I have felt more energetic, looked a million times better and felt better when I used to get up and out, work out, avoid too many carbs (but would have sweet potatoes and whole grains - but in limited amounts, i.e. I would meet a friend for a sandwich or only leave two slices of bread for my day,, when at home all day), focus on low fat dairy, fish/ low fat meat, olive oil avocado - you get the picture. But I don't do this anymore, I am the definition of ignorance. I get up, feel a bit low and start eating. I polish off other's left over toast (something I didn't used to allow myself free access to) and I just keep on going.
I would lvd to have the motivation and drive, and to meet others like me, I don't really do moderation and therefore I would rather completely avoid the things that I just don't ever feel "full up on".
I can be someone who loves the gym and feeling healthy, I would love to get back on track but also meet any others who are like me and love food a bit too much and have found/or are looking for a way out of this overeating cycle.
So hello to all. Apologies for the slightly negative introduction.

I also looooove carbs, especially bread in any form--rolls, toast, pizza, cookies, muffins--you name it! Part of my strategy is to sometimes keep completely away from those foods--keep them out of the house, or don't start with even one piece of toast, in case I can't stop. Other times I do fine with just one sandwich, followed by lots of salad. But whatever I do, I LOG LOG LOG my food!!! That's the most important thing for me. I do mess up regularly, but I try to always get back to logging, logging, logging everything I eat. If I can do it, you can too--good luck!0

As a mother of four grown children, I look back on those toddler years and realize I gave so much of myself to them that I lost myself. Make sure you take time to do the things that you have always loved whether it's reading good books, going out to a movie, or just dressing up and going out on the town with old friends who make you feel like you...or just taking a nap when you're tired. Go to the gym...make time for whatever makes you feel happier. You are always a mom and that's a primary focus, of course. Just don't lose sight of the fact that you are a better mom when you treat yourself right, too. I'm rediscovering myself again and it's fantastic! Just wish I had taken as good care of me as I did my family through the years. Hang in there. I know how exhausted you are some days. It will get easier0
