I currently live in Germany and am off travelling in Spain and Morocco for 1 month starting from Christmas. I still want to lose as much weight as possible in the next 6 weeks as I return home (New Zealand) to the summer i.e Bikini season!

Any tips from people who have travelled and lost or maintained their weight. I don't each much meat (in fact flirting with being a vegetarian), wont have access to a gym and its too damm cold to exercise outside, and I will need to include wine! Did I mention I love food too. It's not looking good right...?

Any tips would be much appreciated, thanks :)

You're right. that doesn't look good. Lol! The best advice I can give is to set a calorie goal and stick with it. Losing weight is about 80% diet and 20% exercise. So if you don't workout too much it's not the end of the world. I would have to say though that if you DO exercise you can eat more and drink more of that wine! So if you can find a way to fit in a little jog everyday that would help to balance out those craving splurges. I eat a lot of sweet potatoes as meals, as I do not eat a lot of meat other than fish (turkey here and there). I used to drink a lot of champagne but then realized that one bottle was over 600 calories! I have since switched to vodka and diet coke or vodka and crystal light. Vodka and flavored carbonated water or vodka tonics are good too. That is if you like vodka. It is the lowest cal liquor I have found so far. Anyhoo, good luck!!!!

. . .good luck with that.

Just try to take it one meal, one choice at a time. I would never try to lose while traveling. I'd be happy with maintaning.

You can do push ups / sit ups / jumping jacks anywhere you go! Just set a number you want to do each day and stick with it.

You can do lunges, squats, crunches, reverse crunches, dips and push-ups/plank-ups in any hotel room! You can do jumping jacks in any hotel room that doesn't have someone sleeping underneath

    your travels sound fantastic!

    my best advice would be:

    1) do a lot of walking whenever possible (skip the taxi/the gondola/the subway). Also a bonus for siteseeing!

    2) Visit "active" sites - I love to go to local indoor pools when I travel! Sometimes there are some really historic ones, and it's a cool way to get in touch with the locals. Try going for hikes, walking tours, bike tours, stair climbing (church towers, anyone?) - if you're going to Barcelona, Park Güell has lots of stairs :)

    3) will you have your computer? you could bring exercise dvds with you for your hotel room. If you will be staying in hostels with communal rooms, that might be kind of weird.

    4) In terms of food - perhaps you could "save" for some awesome dinners/lunches. Like try to pick one "splurge" meal a day, and eat healthy the rest of the time.

I think you can do it, especially if you stay active and track your calories!! But remember - travel is a lot about the experiences, and if all you do is lose a couple of kilos and have an awesome time - EMBRACE IT!

I had the same concern when I traveled to France last summer and Jamaica this summer. I actually ended up losing weight on my trip to France because we walked EVERYWHERE for 12 days. On my trip to Jamaica I maintained my weight. I didnt walk much, except down to the beach to lounge, but I swam for hours everyday and picked activities that involved being active such as hikes to waterfalls, boat ride that included an hour of snorkeling, etc. As other posters have replied, you can always do quick lil cardio sets such as running in place, jumping jacks, etc and sit ups, push ups. Try to walk as much as you can. I never really limited my food or drinks on vacation, but was mindful of trying to make healthy choices. One these once in a lifetime excursions I think it's ok to splurge once or twice on a local cuisine that you might never have the opportunity to try again. In Jamaica I fell IN LOVE with the jerk chicken, which luckily isn't too bad on calories.
