No im not Susan Powter, but i love her catch fraise, "Stop the insanity!", and my life and dieting has been just that, INSANE! I keep beating myself up for being as overweight as i am an not doing anything about it. Im 50 YO, 61 pounds overweight and prediabetic, ive got to nip this thing in the bud before something bad happens. I do this for health issues mainly, but heck who wouldnt want to look and feel better!? So here gos, wish me luck! and happy dieting!

For a moment I thought this post was about the adverse effects of doing the Insanity fitness program with Shaun T.
And yeah, you definitely do NOT look 50. Good luck getting healthy and friend us.0 -
I tryed another online diet and fitness site but i swear, they were way off! It was an act of congress to navigate the site, and the 1 person who hooked up with me as a "Diet buddy", i felt was to hard on herself, (Always calling herself FAT, fats such an ugly word). And when i told her, (Gently of course) not to beat herself up, i think she may have took it the wrong way?? like it offended her. Anyway, sorry to talk your ear off, im needing to find people to vent to, so that we can help each other, along this trip to a better life. Happy day and happy dieting.

Girl you don't look 50! You'll find lots of support and nuturing from people on this site if that's what you need. Don't be afraid to friend people...it's nice when I post stuff and my MFP friends cheer me on!
Good luck!

Yes i know im replying to my own post, but i want to see what others think?? In my mind i think i need to keep my calery count at 1200 a day to loose 1 pound a week, (I basically lead a seditary lifestyle), but others may say thats to few caleries and unrealistic, and most times i find it extreamly hard to stay within that goal. On average i eat 2 meals a day, my main meal around lunch time and something small in the evening, i know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but im to rushed in the morning to even make something guick and easy, let alone eat it. Maybe i should buy some of those on the go meal bars, what do you think?0

1200 calories would seem to be closer to 2 pounds a week...but I guess that depends upon your height. Are you doing any type of cardio or strength training? If so...you need to eat enough extra calories to replace those you've burned through exercise so you do not fall below 1200 calories. That's the minimum. There is a great post on here by "banks" concerning starvation mode. You don't want that to happen.
As for eating...two meals a day is not sustainable. You'll have a lot more success by breaking it out into multiple, smaller meals throughout the day. Breakfast is by far the most important meal of the day, to help support you through the rest of it. Is there any way for you to prepare breakfast the night before and just grab it on the way out? Some dry cereal and a thermos of milk, or an oatmeal pack, dried fruit, and some hot water to mix in? Snacks can be setup the night before, or stored where you can get at them throughout the day.0 -
haha when i saw the name of this thread i forgot about susan powter, and thought of Shawn T...yes I'm stopping the Insanity, I hate it! i might pick it up again when i'm a little more in shape, but damn Insanity and now Asylum? Yeah I'm not THAT crazy lol0

i find it hard to break old habits, i mean i know deep down what i should do, but doing it is another thing. Ive been doing this for 50 years, i cant expect to change over night. Thank you though for your kind words i know you mean well.

You want to know how many times in my life i said, "The diet starts tomorrow"? thats usually after eating a big meal, and feeling totally gorged, and kicking myself in the process, thats what i mean by, "Stop the insanity", i dont want to do that anymore.

Also, I don't always look 50 either. Sometimes people say I look a lot like a Sheltie.0

PJ, good one.
Hi! Is this the Washington thread? Near Seattle myself. What's wrong with looking 50?
Good luck on the weight loss.0 -

Good luck on the weight loss.
With the sun gone for the next few months, we all have to find some way to stay happy. More endorphins, please!!!
It'd also be nice to get in shape to hike more of the peaks around here.
Hmmm...new goal: Summit Mt. Rainier within the next two years. Oh it's on!
And PJilly...goodluck with the change in hair color. I'm sure it'll look smashing.0 -
It's another damp, gray day here in the Pacific Northwest, isn't it? Thanks for the vote of confidence on the hair color. And if it doesn't look good, I can always change it! But I feel like I have to give it a whirl and see how it goes...0

See, now there's a GOAL. For those not familiar with NW volcanos, Mt. Rainier is the "Big Guy". At 14,411 feet high (4,392 meters) - that will keep you busy. Good luck!
So many beautiful hikes here. . . .
We could start a Washington Challenge thread in Exercise & Fitness. I bet we'd find even more PNWers.0 -
Hi Jill hows it going?0

What's good w/ the Insanity thread? Is anyone still doing this exercise? I am currently redoing Insanity for the new year. I completed it last year and decided to revisit it this month.
LET'S GET IT people!0
