Hey y'all, I've been on MFP for about 6 weeks, but I just saw this documentary on the 5:2 diet and was wondering if there was anyone else here who is doing it!

Never tried the 5:2 diet myself, but I have done intermittent fasting. I was eating during an 8 hour window every day during the summer as well as being on a keto diet. Worked very well, although I had to switch things up due to stalling. Heard great things about it though, i'm just not sure on the effects on energy levels to lift as well!0

There's a big 5:2 intermittent fasting group, just search the groups using 5:2 as the search term and it'll be at the top of the list.0

It's just another way to be in calorie deficiency. If it works for you, then go for it. But it's not a magic diet that will cure all ailments.0 -
You might want to check this group out: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/8576-5-2-diet

There are lots of folks on here doing it. I've tried the 5:2 and haven't been able to make it work for me yet - I just feel too tired on the day after a fast, and it affects my exercising. I do like intermittent fasting though. I prefer to eat within a 8 hour (ish) window each day. That works pretty well to keep me on track.0 -
If you did 5:2 you would average more than 1000 cals per day over the 7 days. Does that answer your (repeated) question?0

This isn't about 5:2 (a.k.a eat stop eat)
I do leangains (leangains.com)
My feeding window is between 1130am to 730pm. I do this every day.
Sometimes the window of feeding changes and sometimes it's 9 hours of eating I am doing.
That's what's so great about leangains. I lift as well and have kept seeing improvements. My one year anniversary has been blogged today

The people I know doing 5:2 eat at least 1500 - 2000 cals a day on the "feast days"....nothing like 1200 on feast days.....0

I'm puzzled by intermittent fasting. I generally eat all my food within a 12-hour window (7:30am-7:30pm). It's just how I eat. Am I doing intermittent fasting without realising it? Or is this just normal eating?
I feel I should add a health warning that if this is unintentional intermittent fasting (and it seems like it is - http://www.paleoplan.com/2012/05-03/intermittent-fasting-part-how-to-do-it/) I still got fat eating like this. It's clearly not a magic cure.0 -

I just did a little research. I think that's normal, that's typically what everyone does. The shortest window is usually an 8 hour window, like 11-7. I'm doing a 36 hour fast, so I won't eat past 9pm on Sunday night, then eat at 9am on Tuesday morning.0
