i think everyones hair is different , not one thing works the same for everyone...i have long hair going all down my back. i color my hair ( professionally ) not from a box, i blow dry everytime i wash my hair and i wash about every other day... i use biosilk or moroccan oil...only a little hairspray if i curl my hair...yes i curl or sometimes i run a hair straightner through it...my point is, people almost everyday will stop and tell me how much they love my hair! my trick BIOTIN... i take 5000 mcg daily ...what ever my body dont use goes out in my urine...ive noticed a HUGE difference in my hair!!0

Wow. I just read a lot of bad advice about hair.
I won't even comment but I hope most are smart enough to know better. Geez.
You did comment.
And for me, this sounds silly but when i lightened my hair it got extra knotty when I would wash it or anything...I used to be dark red and it definitely didn't knot as easily, something about the cuticle being larger and dry when it's lighter and processed.....I have a very dry scalp and hair so I only wash a few times a week as well, if I work out I wash just along my hairline...and I also use Johnson and Johnson Detangler like I used to when I was a kid, it works wonders!
I don't know if that is "bad advice" or not but my hair is pretty healthy the way I've been taking care of it, I get compliments on it, and my hairdresser agrees that it's in great shape. but that's just what works for ME.0 -
I've stopped buying high $$ salon shampoo and conditionner and the ones that I use are Herbal Essane (with the coconut oil) and Pantene Pro-V (I think it's the one for weak/fine hair). it's what works for me.
I know this is from a month ago, but I had to laugh, this is the exact combo I have found that works after trying tons of pricey stuff! The HE I use is the hello hydration shampoo and I use one of the fine thin pro-v conditioners (need to check which one).
Mine is usually tangle free except when I am overdue for a haircut (now) and the splits are out of control.
I also like moroccan oil on the ends to keep them from getting dry.0 -
I have fine hair that is getting close to the middle of my back. I wash my hair every day because it gets oily pretty easily. I also use conditioner every day. I never use a brush, I use a wide toothed comb.0

My hair is long, fine, and pin-straight. It will tangle if it's windy or if I'm riding with the windows down in my car (though I'm ok if the windows are up and the moonroof is open). I wash every day because my hair gets oily, flat and stringy if I don't. I use Rusk Full shampoo and Rusk conditioner (can't remember the name, I think it's Smooth). I wash starting at the scalp and work the shampoo down into the length of my hair, I never pile it on top of my head. Then I rinse and work conditioner through the length of it, starting at the back and sides (not so much on the top). I leave the conditioner in while I wash the rest of me and then rinse it out while I'm rinsing off, so it stays in for a good couple of minutes. When I get out of the shower I towel it dry, using the towel to soak up the excess water (I don't rub vigorously). Then I comb it out and let it air dry, or put it up in a clip or bun or braid it or however I'm going to wear it that day. I also only brush it when it's dry, and even then it would be once in the morning, maybe once in the afternoon if it really needs it, and once before I go to bed. I don't color my hair, and I don't use any styling product other than a little hairspray to control the wispies if I need it (and that's rare).
This is the routine that has been working for me for the past year or so. Over the years I have had to change up my routine to account for hormonal changes post-pregnancy and whatnot. Everybody's hair is different, though, so what works for me may not work for someone else.0 -
My hair is fine and very thick. It can get very tangled. I use a basic shampoo and conditioner. I don't do much else to it unless it is very dry and I use something to control the fly aways. My brush is a basic conair type padded brush.0

I only use an Isinis brush and for me almost any shampoo/conditioner works but I always make sure to put a dab of salon brand (there are many, all seem to work well for me anyway) of leave in oil after a shower on the ENDS only.
My hair is waist length, and used to tangle horribly even in a ponytail if I didn't use oil0 -
I have also long thin tangly hair. I brush once a day, I have also oily hair and I agree with not washing it too much. Unfortunately I do wash it almost every morning as the unwashed hair feeling drives me crazy. But if I stay at home I try not to wash it even if I go to the gym.It does get less oily after few days or weeks but then I go back to washing. I like my hair long but sometimes I think of cutting it shorter because of the tangling. Its easy to say not to do much with it.I usually don't and I get great compliments on my nice long shiny hair.. I just cant stand when moving around in a jacket or a sweater creates tangled chunks behind my neck there is no way I can just leave it unbrushed. Also I loose quite lots of hair by constant washing and brushing. hat means using ONLY organic and natural productsI. I am big fan of organic raw foods and All Natural body products. All comercial shampoos are toxic and poisons. Its very important to be in true symbiotic relationship with Mother Nature. That keeps us healthy. Please use some hundred percent natural shampoos, conditioners (Australian Organics works well for me..the only conditioner I have found to work for my long hair), if any gels or hairsprays then chose natural as well. I see so many recomendations here for Pantene, Herbal Essence and other products..still very harmful to our health..so are parfumes, lotions (use natural lavera if any), toothpaste (use without fluoride), make UPS, lipsticks and whatever else..women put on daily toxic products and then we are surprised disease is on the rise..lets turn back to nature..Less Is More!0 -
My hair if baby fine. I wash my hair every other day. I have a big tooth comb that I use in the shower when I rinse the conditioner out. That way, my hair is not tangled by the time I get out of the shower. Other than that..I use a padded paddle brush, that is always recommended by hair stylists.0

I have long naturally straight hair. I use a 'tangle teezer' brush. I tend to wash it every other day. I very rarely use any products on it. I find leaving it alone if the best thing for it0

try using Morrocan oil...pretty expensive but really great stuff.
This stuff is awesome. Also, in the shower, slather on your conditioner, leave it on for a few mins and then comb those tangles out with one of those wide-toothed combs. I've never had an issue with tangling and my hair is almost down to my *kitten*. One more thing..when you're sleeping, braid it. When I leave my hair loose in bed I wake up with crazy tangles.0 -
My hair probably doesn't qualify as long yet (it's just past my shoulders) and it's not really straight (more wavy), but it's definitely closer to straight than curly. My hair is extremely fine (baby fine) which means tangles galore if you don't watch out, especially if I leave it down and it's windy outside. My solution has been to wash my hair with conditioner only. I just use the cheap Sauve products (ocean breeze is my favorite). No tangles and no static in this long winter we've had. I brush my hair about once a day, I guess. Only brush it dry. I don't comb or brush it after washing it until it's dry. If my hair starts looking a little oily, I will use a clarifying shampoo about once a month for my roots.0

I use a wooden paddle brush from Aveda. It's awesome!0
-
I never brush it. I like the bedheaded look0

Goody Tanglefix brush!0

I use the teatree shampoo and conditioner. I also use aussie leave in conditioner, and i get my dead ends cut off every now and then.. it workds for me!0

My hair is down to my butt. I don't brush it. I usually just wash and condition a few times a week. I use hot oil treatments and coconut oil when its dry in the winter. I tend to keep it in a bun most of the time and never use a curling iron or hairdryer. I donate it once a year to locks of love however not this year so I can donate 3 feet next time instead of the usual 2ft. Hope this helps:)0

I actually don't use a brush I find that brushes tug too much on my hair. I use a wide-toothed comb.0

I just buy the brushes at walmart that are for detangling can't remember the name...I wanna say nubby or something...I would brush once a day. After showering I applied moraccan oil as well...or garnie fructis oil to the ends of my hair to brush through...rarely blow-dried. I would wash my hair every couple days..sometimes every three days depending on oiliness.
I do dye my hair about every six months...not big on upkeep.
Recently cut my hair and donated it so working on growing it back again to donate again0 -
I have fine hair that tangles easily. ..I use a leave in conditioner/de-tangler with a wide tooth comb.0

I have long dyed hair that loves to get tangled sometimes into one big dread! It's also really fine and the chlorine from swimming does not help. I've tried a bunch of different shampoos but Goldwell is probably one of my favorites. And it's purple! You should be able to find it pretty cheap on amazon. But otherwise I do put a leave-in/detangler in before I brush it out after washing and that helps wonders. I still try to find ways to help it from breaking or becoming super frizzy because of swimming, but so far it's been alright.0

I don't really have a specific brush I use. I just use the normal paddle brush in the mornings. If I blow dry my hair, I use a rounded brush to give more volume. I have pretty straight hair, but my hair is fine and gets tangled and messed up since I take a shower at night and sleep on it. In the morning, I brush it out. Brushing out the hair from the bottom up is easy because it gets rid of tangles quicker, but I bet you already know that. Then I put some volumizing spray and blow dry for a couple of seconds to add volume. Then I straighten it so it'll be silky all day and then I put serum in it so it won't tangle. It seems like a long process but it takes me 5 minutes or less.0

Enjoy makes a great spray that both conditions and detangles. I also use a large paddle brush.0

Ausie products. 3 Minute Miracle when it gets to the point you're describing. Condition, condition, condition...then it doesn't get that tangled that the darned brush won't go through it. Oh, and I use one of those vented brushes with the plastic bristles or a paddle brush. The ones with the natural bristles don't go through my hair at all, and don't get me *started* on the round brushes. WTF are those anyway?0

My hair is to my hips, and I'm on several long-hair forums similar to this one.
You really shouldn't brush much. Most of the time, use a wide-tooth comb. Never brush wet hair. When you do brush, use a boar bristle brush to distribute the oils to the length. Only shampoo your scalp - the length really doesn't need it more than a few times a month, if that. Don't pile your hair on top your head and mush it all around when you shampoo - that just causes tangles. Use a good conditioner and leave it on for a minute or two before rinsing. Jojoba or coconut oil applied and left on for a couple of hours or overnight several times a week is a great treatment. Consider bunning or braiding your hair when out in the sun and wind.
Treat your hair like antique lace and it'll look great. Good luck!0 -
I know I don't really count because I have naturally curly hair.. but when I DO brush my hair after spending forever to straighten it (nearly classic length) I use one of those paddle brushes. I have an ionized paddle brush. Not really sure if the ionized part is actually helping, but I do find it works better than the cheapy brush my daughter (who does have straight hair) uses on hers. Her hair ends up less static-y and frizzy.0
