Gastric bypass

Has anyone here had gastric bypass surgery? I am 22 yrs post op and it has been quite a ride! Switching addictions, malnutrition, anemia and osteoporosis have all been factors in my life and i'm wondering who else has been profoundly affected by this procedure that really should be outlawed IMHO.

    I wish you came here pre-op so people could of talked you out of it. It should be outlawed.

    Well, this didn't exist in 1992 when I had the surgery! I was 27 yrs old and weighed 275. I had 3 small children and was desperate to lose weight. If I knew then what I know now...

    I'm almost 10 years out; lost 180 lbs and have kept 150 of it off. No complaints here, other than I wish I would have done it fifteen years earlier than I did.

    When did your side-effects happen?

    I'm 9 years out haven't had any side-effects. Still take my calcium citrate and vitamins and go to the doctor to have my bloodwork checked yearly. Best decision FOR ME that I've ever made.

    Never did it and it never even crossed my mind to even do it!
