  • How long have you been monitoring? We can only really offer advice if you open your diary :)

How long has it been since you've started? How old are you? How much do you currently weigh? How tall are you? I have many, many more questions but you must elaborate in order to help us help you.

As has been mentioned, would you be comfortable setting your diary to public so that we know more about your routine? You can do that by going to Settings > Diary Settings > Public and then hit Save Changes.

Stats and details are really helpful. What kind of activity level do you have? Are you exercising? How closely are you tracking your food? How long have you been at this? Help us to fill in the blanks.
  • im not comfortable putting my diary out there however Im 5ft 5... been counting kcals for a couple of weeks... and classed as obese :( on the bmi.

Thank you for taking the time replying x

Don't worry, you can show us your diary. At worst, It'll only hurt for a minute and then you'll have your whole life of dietary success ahead of you

Well aside from that if you're really doing the right things it can take more than a couple of weeks to see your progress. My weight fluctuates anywhere from 5-7 lbs in any given month and I literally have to compare my weight to approximately the same time in the previous month to notice the downward trend. Keep doing the darn thing, give it a couple months to see what's happening on the scale.

Perhaps you could summarize what you eat for some meals instead?

    hmm wont open diary...

If you aren't losing weight you are not in a deficet most likely.

That happens when you under estimate your intake because you don't weigh solids and measure liquids and over esitmate burns.

Esp at 1200 calories...and being obese.

It doesn't take a couple of weeks at such a low deficet. At first there is a lot of water weight that goes when you start restricting then it should slow down to 1-2lbs a week (depending on deficet).

Take a good hard look at your own diary and log everything...

Your're not eating 1200 calories otherwise you'd be losing weight. Be honest with your diary make sure you account for everything and it is weighed and measured

what do you eat? is it set right for you as far as calories go? how long have you been at it? are you drinking your water for the day? are you exercising? are you limiting your carbs and sodium? while I cant stress that a calorie is a calorie and the most basic part of losing weight it does depend on if it comes from protein and fiber like lean meats, beans, oatmeal, flax seed, apples, peanut butter occasionally, and carbs: that come from fruits and vegetables not bread or other processed foods. those shoud be treated like treats. we need more info about you and what you eat and do as activity and how much you weigh now to know what to help you tweek. but I will tell you its a learning process so try new things until it clicks. you can add me or look at my food diary if you want.

Your ticker says you have only 37 lb. to lose. Set your goal to 1 lb. per week, which is more than 1,200 calories.

If you're not losing, you may not be eating at a deficit. Weigh your food, and try eating back half your exercise calories. Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

well without knowing much else about you, 5'5" and classified as obese is probably saying you aren't eating enough calories. I am 5'5" and was "obese" I hate that word, when I started. I was given more calories than that. you also have to eat back your exercise calories

Dear FitnessPal friend, don't give up but be painfully honest with yourself. I have have the same issue for many years and what I have finally realized is that obese (according to BMI) does not mean unfit. It have taken me two full months to begin to see results and they are slow in coming but I am encouraged by inches lost in the mean time. You may be building muscle at the same time so the scale is not the whole tale. I am 5'5" 240 pounds and use BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal to make sure I am always at about a 1000 calorie deficit. I exercise for at least 45 minutes (30 moderate/15 vigorous) 5 days a week and track my calories/water every meal and have only lost 5 pounds since January 1. So commit to yourself, and stay with it. IT WILL HAPPEN! Good luck.
  • Sorry i havent replied straight away but I use the app on my phone but to see your messages I have to log on the computer.
I do put everything in my diary and Im very honest with my self ... I am a veggie (dont eat eggs or fish) - The app suggested me to be on 1200 kcals a day thats why Im doing that amount.
I will tell u abit about my diet past: The other year I done slimming world for 7 months and only lost 4lb - I must stress I WAS sticking to the diet and got my leader and her boss to check my diary and they could not find anything wrong. ...I am honest with my self - I need to lose weigh. I started this diet at 13.9 - I weighed myself today and 13.11 !!
I could do with drinking more water..but I only drink black tea or water.
Breakfast I normally eat : gluten free toast
    Snacks : apples/bananas/oranges. / snack a jacks
lunch: sweet potato with tinned toms and salad
Tea: some kind of veggie thing and carrots and broccoli ( as peas and sweetcorn is quite high in kcals). I dont drink alcohol unless I go out - which is only a couple times a year.
I do have morphine patches - I where these everyday but my doctor says they will not stop me from losing weight.

thank you for all your comments x
  • Thanks for you comment, please see my reply at the bottom of the page. Please believe me when I say I am so honest with my self. I had a Dime bar yesterday and I logged that,

Morphine patches ? so you have a medical issue....

Eat 30 % protein 50% fat and 20% carbohydrate for a month and see how that goes. If you have insulin resistance (likely in obese women) then your current carbohydrate heavy diet is going to be a challenge.

apples, bananas, oranges, - all sugar

I believe you no1 wants to foul themselves I am sure and you sound you want this so much...You did slimming world for 7 months and lost only 4lbs!!!?? That is wayyy low

Did you ever do a check up for your body? Hypothyroidism causes weight gain. My friend was eating 800 calories a day and exercising and still didn't lose weight until she discovered she was suffering from her thyroid glands and got the right treatment. You can do a whole check up, also they can check your metabolic rate. I did mine and it turned out to be only 1050 (although on the internet calculators and bmr i should be 1550) but i was on a very low calorie diet that caused my metabolism to slow down(exercise helped with that and eating more).

NO. I wish people would stop saying this. You are not and cannot "build muscle" eating at a calorie deficit.

You may be losing inches but you're not building muscle, you're likely losing muscle. When you start to remove the cover of fat from muscles they can seem larger, but not eating at a deficit.
  • Hi,
I have been to one consultant about my thyroid as I do believe something is wrong, however he said my T3 is fine though when I phoned up Thyroid UK they said (once given them all the info) something needs to be done. I have ask for an second option but I dont see him until the end of April and I m going to a ball in the beginning of may - so I really need to lose weight and I thought by doing this (counting my kcals) it will help the doctor,
I have all my results if you are good at reading them. Im a size 16 (uk) and just want to be a 12 - so not too much to ask :(

MFP has a Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/770-hypothyroidism-and-hyperthyroidism

I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease), and I lost way more slowly than most MFPers, but I lost.

you are at too much of a deficit- lowest should be 1200 cals a day even with the exercise..so another words eat back some of your cals..healthy proteins and veggies and fruit....you will lose weight faster and healthier :)
  • maybe you need more than 1200 calories. try eating more a good balance of all the food groups.
