The Beginning of a Change

Hi everyone,

I'm Joe, i'm 23, and for some reason i've not really decided yet, I started trying to get healthy about three weeks ago.

I started off at 22 stone and 6 lbs, and have so far last 8lbs in those three weeks. After the first week I had never been more motivated for anything, and made some changes like introducing fruit & veg back in to my diet, actually having breakfast and lunch and doing some exercise. I started with going out jogging which was all going well until after the second run when I ended up with shin splints which has put an end to that for the time being. I've bought a couple of fitness games for the Xbox which are actually pretty good at getting a sweat on too, but it definitely doesn't feel as rewarding as being out running. I'd like to start swimming soon aswell, but i'm still a bit too self conscious for that at the moment I think.

The main issue that makes this hard for me, is the food I eat. I'm quite honestly one of the fussiest eaters in the world, so my diet is full of things that i'm ashamed of. But portion control, and cutting out the junk food & lager has led to 8lbs off so far, so something must be going right.

Infact, that last point has led to me having a question, what alcohol should I go for now on a night out instead of lager? I'm not too big a fan of whiskey or vodka, but could happily drink them in some kind of mixed drink. Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading,
Joe

  • Whats goin on Joe and welcome aboard. Sounds like your making a great step in the right direction. Shin splints are a killer!! I had the same problem but once I got a good shoe that changed everything. Sounds like you have internet since you mentioned the whole Xbox deal so If I could suggest looking up the YouTube user Six Pack Shortcuts. They have amazing workout videos on YouTube that wont take up too much of your time and definitely leave you feeling it the next morning. As you have already started doing keep you meals up and log them in the tracker so they can give you a better idea of exactly how you are doing on your calorie intake. Keep up the good work and should you ever need any motivation or advice feel free to hit me up!

Thanks, will check out that YouTube channel when I next get a chance.

I've already invested in some running shoes but as my shins still haven't healed properly yet, i'm yet to be able to give them a proper go unfortunately.
