Slimfast anyone?

Hi there, I've recently started the Slimfast 3-2-1 plan, 3 snacks, 2 meal replacements and 1 larger meal.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried this and what their experience was like etc.

Any comments from people who haven't tried it are welcome too :)

The key will be getting back to eating 3 meals at the end of it, without eating too much and getting back to square one.

I have done slim fast for a while, only the shakes for breakfast and evening meal, made with ice in a blender. Then had a 300-400 calorie lunch and a snack (non slim fast). Its hard to say how much weight I lost during the time as i have consistently lost weight slowly over around 18months. I usually did it for a week or two at a time, only during week days. The thing to remember really is that the diet itself is to help calorie control. There is no magic ingredient in the shake that makes you lose weight. They have the nutrients you need of course, but also a lot of sugar. Also i found it easier in the summer months when it was warm, cos in the winter/cold weather, your body just wants lovely warm meals! Doing it for a while to get your body used to less calories might work. But when you stop its important to maintain the calorie intake if weight loss is the goal. Obviously everyone is different, so what worked for me might not for someone else. Best of luck with your journey :)

I keep the powdered shakes in as they're a quick and easy meal replacement when I'm running late. They work best for me if I have plenty of water within the next hour as then I feel full and am not inclined to nibble things! They are relatively high in sugar and carbs - I haven't used the snack bars or soups so can't comment on them. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I tried it a couple of years ago, lost weight very quickly and put it back on just as quick - the problem for me was that I was no good at controlling portion sizes and totally (blissfully!) unaware of how many calories I was putting in...so, it didn't work for me as it was very much a 'diet' rather than a change of attitude.

That said, a girl at work did very well on it and managed to keep it off so I do think it works for some people - but she had been fairly healthy previously until an accident where she put on a lot of weight during recovery.

I'd eat real food. Why add a bunch of chemicals and manmade stuff to your body? Plus, it's not cheap to use food alternatives.

I came here on the Slim Fast diet, and while I do still use it for breakfast (I have an incredibly busy schedule and it fills me up until lunch), I've pretty much moved onto other foods for lunch and dinner, unless I'm so cramped for time and HAVE to eat.

Thing is, I've learned that all SF does is portion foods for you so that you don't overeat. There's nothing in them to help lose weight. So you can eat healthy meals and stay at that calorie level and still lose as much. That said, I like the way they taste and don't have a problem drinking one for breakfast. They curb my sweets craving.

However, they don't teach you how to eat healthy. Once you come off of it, which you should do fairly soon (it's not meant to be long term), make sure you keep counting calories and making appropriate servings of healthy foods. Good luck.

I used meal replacement shakes to start because it helps me shrink my appetite, but am now slowly moving toward more "real" meals & fewer shakes so that I am accustomed to eating a healthy, balanced diet all day long. I am an on-the-go toddler mom & nanny so the shakes are a great alternative to skipping breakfast when I'm in a time crunch - but this is probably all I will use them for as I get further along.

Slimfast is one of the things that I have used over the last 25+years to try and lose weight. Guess what? It worked for as long as I used it. It tasted nasty. I got really tired of the sweet taste and wanted real food.

I've been using MFP for the last 20 months and it really works. It's hard work and required me to change my entire mindset about food. Most people are overweight for issues other than "I just eat too much". It is more about WHY we eat too much. Work on getting rid of the old habits that made you gain and work on building new habits that will make you healthy.

Eat real food. Learn moderation because that will still be there when you are at goal. Weigh/measure/log all your food. Learn to meet your macros. Harder than it sounds - but works.

I know there's no magic fix and what its basically doing is allowing me to count my calories more effectively. The hard part is definitely going to be making sure I keep up healthy eating and portion control when I come off it. I've been losing weight steadily since September so I'd like to think I'm getting there with working out my intake and actually making decent real food, this is just an easy option, or at least I'm hoping so!

In terms of cheaper options, I'm actually doing Slimfast as part of a trial so the shakes and snacks are provided (very useful on a student budget!!)

That must be nice! At walmart they had a promotional thing with buy one, get one free coupons for slim fast products. I ended up taking like ten of them.

In my opinion, I think that eating regular food is a better idea, rather then slim fast. I tried it right after I gave birth, and it didn't work for me. I felt tired and lacked energy, and didn't lose much weight anyway. So I stopped and started eating better food choices, started counting calories, and trying to hit my macros. That worked out much better for me. After giving birth I weighed 202, I weigh 135 today :-)

Yeah its great! I'm not sure if I would ever do anything like this of my own accord but thought that it was worth a try when I was given the opportunity! The snacks are actually really nice too! Haha nice work!
