Getting back to running after surgery

I'm having surgery on March 5 (laparascopic, but with a 3- 4 inch lower abdominal incision as well), and I'd really like to get back to running as soon as I can. The surgeon has given me clearance to start running at about 4 weeks post op. I'd really like to hear from others about how they've managed this.

Had open heart surgery in early December. Even with that major surgery I was starting to run - albeit slower and less time - eight weeks later.
Don't expect to get back to your pre-op speed all at once; patience and listening to your body's response to exercise is more important.0 -
I have my surgery scheduled for March 12th, same incisions. I was told by my doctor that I can start walking immediately but no running, lifting, bending etc for 6 weeks.
My sister had the same surgery and she started working out 2 weeks after her procedure (too soon) and then had a month + set back.
I have struggled with the fact that I can't run, bike or swim for so long but I plan to walk everyday to stay in shape so when I do start running I won't be in horrible shape.
Good Luck to you and take it slow. Though 4-6 weeks seems like a lifetime it really isn't that long but if you start back too soon you could do more harm than good.0 -
thank you so much. I've been kind of lazy over the winter, this crazy amount of snow and cold really kicked my a** and now i want to take advantage of the upcoming nice weather.0

Hope all went well. How are you feeling, 4 days post-surgery?0
