i guess when you screw up on MFP

you will STILL lose weight, but not as much lol. at least according to what it tells me even if the numbers are red, for me at least.

    You won't lose if you go way over for a few days, lol. But once in a while... no problem.

    I went over by 500-1000 5 times this month and still lost 1 lb, and my deficit is 400 or something.

    Yeah it is pretty easy to figure out. If you have MFP set up as a 500 calorie a day deficit, anything you eat over what MFP tells you too up to 499 calories is going to say you are on pace to lose weight when you click that little complete diary button. It's not like they give you some magic number that is the only number possible to lose weight at.

    To be fair, I don't believe it's only math. It's more complicated than that. I lost 1 lb two days after my 2800+ calories cheat day at Christmas... no math can explain that.
