So I noticed that whether I am walking or running, it can only calculate steps taken. So if I run two miles versus walking to miles, the calorie count is the same... correct? Fitbit from what I noticed doesn't take into consideration the activity itself, just the steps taken during the activity. So if I am running most days, and I actually burning more calories than it is saying?

I agree. Look at your 'very active minutes.' You don't rack those up for walking around the block, but you would if you were running.0 -
I thought that yes, walking or running the same distance will burn the same calories, but you finish it a lot quicker when running. I would rather run for 15 minutes than walk for 30 or 45 minutes. But, I am have no idea if that is true or not, it just makes me feel better thinking I am getting more bang for my buck!0

i agree that it does differentiate. Also I see a difference on my dashboard once I log in the activity.0

I get "very active minutes" while walking. Sometimes, I'll even get them if I'm walking quickly into Target .0 -
I use a heartrate monitor when I do cardio exercises and I use my fitbit numbers the rest of the time. I've noticed a big difference when I Zumba or swing dance... my heart rate monitor will show a burn of 600 in an hour while my fitbit will show 380 or something like that.0
