WORK OUT WITH HANDICAP ?

At 460 I'm on an all out fight with obesity .

Besides diet , the key element is exercise . Walking is a big plus . However , that's where my problem is .I suffer from neuropathy in my feet . Mine is nonreversible and the pain is sometimes overwhelming .

Does anyone else suffer from this and how do you COPE ?

Help me if you can .

thx
Gonzo

  • Try some exercises like they suggest in physical therapy. Significant dietary changes plus moving your arms and legs, if possible, even if it is for stretching or light yoga can help. You can do this!

I do not suffer from this, but I had a broken foot for a while and suffer from plantar fasciitis. You can lose weight without exercise just by eating at a deficit. It is slower going and you will lose more muscle along with the fat than if you did resistance training, but you will still lose weight. Look into shadow boxing videos on youtube and do the upper body part of the exercises. Buy some little dumbells and work yourself up to a heavier weight as you go. I'm not familiar with neuropathy of the feet, but I can infer from the name that it's some kind of nerve condition. If you can walk a little bit here and there, or even stand for a bit it will be better than nothing at all.

I'm sure you can search the internet for people in similar situations and see how they stay in shape.
  • Hi Gonzo ,
I have Neuropathy too , Mortor neuropathy to be specific...
I have foot drop and almost no muscle around my calves due to the resultant muscle wasting ...
I faced the similar trouble when i started , so I took to stationary biking , which gave tremendous results...
and after i lost good amount of weight , became more agile , I started walking .. and now i love to walk around ...

I'll suggest you start with cycling and also add in some weight training with small amount of weights ...like 3-5 kgs..to start with..

Also have you tried workouts like 'Leg raises" and 'Leg extensions" , they'll give a very good stretch..

    Good luck friend

what about doing water exercises? I have major back issues and this is what all docs have told me to do, so that there is no resistance and when walking in water or doing water aerobics I won't be in as much pain

I'm isolated in where I live . There are no water aerobics available . I have thought of that but there's no outlet .

Should maybe I just push through the pain or can / will it present more complications ?
