Joyce and Vicki :flowerforyou:  Happy birthday! :drinker:
It was nice to be interviewed regarding my participation in the women's half marathon being organised this sunday!
The journalist felt it would be inspiring for young ladies as I am closer to 50 !
I had a big smile thinking the young ladies would be left speechless when they would be introduced to all the Vit F ladies I've befriended here.:blushing:

    Good morning!

Just a quick note for Barbie ...

My husband used to a Maytag repairman ....been a while ... but here are his dryer recommendations. When a dryer stops after multiple loads and then restarts after a rest you possibly have an overheated motor. Check your vent system all the way to the outside , check the lint filters, and consider whether you were overloading dryer capacity. Could also be a mechanical problem with belts slipping or rollers not being smooth ... causing motor to overwork and then overheat. Could be a problem with the temperature switch that shuts machine down when motor overheated.

Anyways, he suggests first making sure that you have adequate air supply (venting, lint traps, no blockages, etc.) before calling repairman.

Good Morning, I just found this board and find it inspiring already! I have used MFP on and off but my goals for March are to log every day. One of the problems I had in the past is not enough calories. Finding the balance isn't easy. What I need is more calories that are no or low fat. I seem to go over on protein, but |I don't think that's a terrible thing. Looking forward to following this board and adding my two cents.

    Have a great day all!

Central Ohio dodged a weather bullet  had a bit of ice, maybe 2" snow.....but no problem. Southern part of the state had more snow. TV says in 40's by Thursday. Hope your weather is good too.

Still have the cold. Felt better yest,so did some laundry etc. This morn,it's back to coughing etc.Want to make a decent meal today.
DH has made do with whatever. Have a new slo cooker recipe using thick cut pork chops. With salad & a veggie ,supper is done.

Our 1st Great Gr Child is too be born today in Fl.Will also be 1st Grchild for both sides of the family. They are all ready to leave for the hospital. A truly happy family day.

"Pat in OH: I can believe there are legally blind people driving out there. Have you ever heard of Darwin Awards for those too stupid to live? I don’t want us to be among them and neither does DH. "

Each time DH mentioned that, nearly always was met by "Oh,yes,we knew a person who did the same thing".... seems to be a common, scary fact ! :frown:

Dr wants me to move my calorie limit up,so will when I get rid of this cold. Will try for adding slowly & see how it goes.Does anyone really understand how eating more cause wt loss? Can't seem to wrap my head around it. Time to get dressed & dinner started.

Didn't see the Oscars, but check out Bette Midlers wonderful song ! What a talent she has,

Do I need to do anything extra for sodium, I mostly take home made foods
    Do let me know....

Joyce – oh, that I had a day that food didn’t appeal to me! And Happy Birthday to you, too.

Rose – I hope everyone is feeling better by now.

Michele – sorry to read about DH’s allergies - they are a big challenge for many people, my DH included.

Looking at the newest storm going across the country – winter be gone.

Alison – I hope you were successful in fighting off the symptoms.

Beth – I should have read your post about chromium curbing sugar cravings a couple of nights ago. Perhaps I’d have been more successful in the evening.

Sandy and others – congratulations on your NSVs. They are a great motivator.

    ChristChild2 – so…..? News?

    Vicki – Happy Birthday.

Must go to work now, but wanted to catch up on posts.

    Good Morning,

    Welcome Newcomers:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Happy birthday Vicki and Joyce.:flowerforyou:

    Deedee:drinker:

Claudie !!!!!!!!!!!! I am glad the scale is going in the right direction. Your comment made my day!

Carol sounds like it might be the trauma of the medical procedure his body is reacting to. I am sorry he has to go through this and you too. If he is vomiting he may be dehydrated too. That slows everything down too. Have you let his doctor know.

Barbie I think I have that sodium issue whenever I go out to eat. I try hard to order the healthiest thing on the menu. Almost always the next day I have a pound of water weight. I love the social aspect but find the water weight frustrating.

Michelle know what you mean about the yoghurt. That is why I like to add my own fruit sweetened with fruit juice.

Vicki are you getting close to your goal weight? Three pounds is a great loss for a month!!!!!!! Slow and steady.

Jane glad family is on the mend. Feel your pain with the snow.

Heather I hope the rain is not causing more flooding.

Sylvia glad son made it home safe. We have had too many weather related tragedies here in Minnesota.

We went to the conservatory again last night for some music, warmth, and enjoyment of the flowers. We went to dinner with some friends following the outing. Today is supposed to be the last subzero day for this winter season. YEAH!!!!!! Staying in and keeping warm. Warm thoughts and hugs to all.

    Goal:
To make healthy choices today, so I have a healthier tomorrow.
    2014 word: contentment

    Hello Ladies,

March is looking awesome. Spring Break is in full swing. My daughter is home this week from UF and our son will be off from school next week.
My DH and I are still assisting our Uncle with late term ???dementia but he is moving into a assisted living soon. Very difficult.
We also have our sweet 2 yr old niece who is with us during the day. She has been a victim of Day Care abuse 21times. Uggh! really can not believe she has been bit her arm dislocated and bruises not explained. So she is with us to her parents can find her another school with better training. She is a real joy for us.

Goal this month to get rid of another 1-5 pounds.
    Work on arms.
    Garden and work in yard.
    Log everyday.

Hope all have a Blessed and healthy month.

    Happy Monday!

The doodle dash was great fun! It was wet, muddy and the dogs loved it! The Chase is beautiful whatever the weather - but we all got very wet and very muddy!

February was a bad month for me - I really lost the plot and undid all the good I did in January! So March has got to be a new start!

Now my laptop is working I can log everyday! That has got to be my main challenge - when I log I think twice about what I eat and how much exercise I do! It worked in January so March here we come!

You are all such an inspiration - I really missed you in February!!!

Log everyday - be honest! No more no less in March.

Whoa!!! I think I just read 4 pages!!! Well, it's raining little ice balls at the moment (believe the term is gropple); 3" snow forcast, who knows---we'll get what we get. Yesterday it reached the low 70's and I didn't wear a coat all day----heaven!!!

Spent a great part of the weekend with Gwen; her dr. has called me twice..............lab results are not good, kidneys are in really bad shape. Also had conversation with her youngest sister (73) in Ca. Also digoxin level way too high. Will see cardio Wed. and eye dr. appt tomorrow
if roads not too bad by then. Slept there last night, we watched and commented on the Oscars. She's a hoot; it's such a shame.

Have tons to do here around the house, so please forgive me, I'll have to just say Happy Birthday to those with them, congratulations on NSVs (non-scale victories to the person who asked), and also congratulations on any new grandchildren. Hope those who are ill feel better and happy for those who were sick and now are well...........oh, and welcome newbies!

I just have to say how happy I am with my guy. We alternate cooking dinner, and when it's his turn he writes down everything he used on a piece of paper, including weights and measurements, so I can log the meal correctly.
    I think I'm awfully lucky!

    Good evening everyone!

I have just decided that I am going to pursue some treatment for my knee. It first played up when I was 16 and has been intermittently bad ever since. Recently I have not really had a day without it feeling vulnerable and other days bad. It prevents me doing yhings I love, like dancing or even much walking recently. I have been avoiding an op, but as I have been really working at strengthening it, to no avail, I think it is time I at least got someone to look at it. That means a boring journey to our local city hospital, if I can even get an appointment. :grumble: In the past I have had x rays, an arthrogram, etc, with no result, but times have moved on I hope. I will make a doctor's appointment tomorrow. One problem is, I feel my own doctor is useless, but I guess she can refer me ok.

The other advance is that I have emailed a new hairdresser to ask them if they could turn off the background music when I am there. They have told me they can, so I will ring them tomorrow. Hooray! I liked their website and attitude, so I am hopeful. I'm not sure why I find these things difficult, but baby steps are the way forward. I tell myself, I know how to take the next step and proceed from there.

The hake tonight was delicious. Even with noodles it was only 325 calories. I used Schzetuan pepper for the first time ever. DH pronounced it a triumph! He has cooked pears for us to have later with home made yoghourt. I count 150 for that. So I should come in under today. I just want this pesky lb gone so I can start from scratch again.
Yoga tomorrow which means I burn fewer cals, though I do love it.

    Have a good evening everyone.

Mandy in ON: Logging every day is an excellent goal. It sure keeps me on track.:flowerforyou:

Pat in OH: If energy is too low, a person doesn’t move around enough. Eating more calories, within a reasonable range, may boost energy and movement. I’m just guessing and speculating. I’ll bet someone else knows more about this.:flowerforyou:

Jayagyan: If you’re using home recipes you can enter them into the My Recipe section, and then you’ll have more accurate nutritional information. It does take patience and work.:flowerforyou:

Patsy from Lutz, FL: It is lucky for your niece that she has you on her team. I hope her parents are able to find reputable day care.:flowerforyou:

Jane: Take your walk as slowly as needed, and give yourself plenty of time. I hope you have a great time with Violet.:flowerforyou:

MA in UK: Welcome back! I am glad you enjoyed your Doodle Dash despite the wet & muddy conditions. I'm picturing baths for everyone once you got home.:laugh:

Yanniejannie: Best wishes for your friend Gwen. She is lucky to have you in her life, and I’ll bet she knows and appreciates it.:flowerforyou:

Cynthia: Having a supportive partner is a huge asset in the lifestyle change we all make in order to lose weight and keep it gone. DH is supportive and helpful, too. It is a blessing.:flowerforyou:

I need to grumble about women’s clothing sizes. I can buy pants that fit because they all tend to run long except the petites. Long sleeved tops are another story altogether. They are not proportioned for tall women AT ALL. If they fit around my chest the bodice and sleeve lengths are too short. I hate having long sleeved shirts that don’t reach my wrists or rest on my hips. I asked DDIL about this since she is taller and slimmer than me. She just puts up with the too short “long” sleeves and pushes them up a bit to make it seem like a style choice. I’ve been buying bigger tops. I haven’t been to a “tall “ store because there isn’t one nearby, and I’m not really that tall. At least I don’t think so. I’m just under 5’8”.

    Katla in beautiful NW Oregon

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Thomas A. Edison

    March goals:

    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Move more: cardio at least 3 days a week and strength training as soon as I am able.
    3. Find a way to have fun at least once every day.
    4. Water: According to an article I saw on facebook, drinking water at certain times maximizes its effectiveness for the body. I’ll work toward following these guidelines:
    * 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
    * 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
    * 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
    * 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

Thank you all for all the heart felt birthday wishes.   :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Hopefully I can read them March 3rd 2015 and will enjoy them. Let's just say no nausea or diarrhea but still feel bad. I think a good part of it is dehydration. I put down I had 3 glasses of fluid yesterday with all of that diarrhea. Water isn't appealing to me so I think I will drink hot tea instead.

DH tells me that we go to my choice of places for supper tonight. I asked him what he would say if I said Steak and shake because I like their chili supreme of whatever it is called. I don't think it would do very well today though. So he is happy that I chose Red Lobster. Whether I will eat my meal or not but I will eat a Cheddar biscuit. With what I have in my diary I am way over my calories and everything else but that's OK. I have been under for several days. After all it's my birthday.

DH had his follow up appointment with the rhythm specialist today. His heart rate is still very low, 46, but he has no adverse symptoms with it so it's OK.

I don't know about how you all are doing with the weather today but it looks like we got about 3 inches of snow on top of the ice. Wish I could stay inside for a week but I know I need to get out.

Welcome to the site :drinker: . So sorry to read about your lost. It will get better. You lost 4 lbs before finding the site that is good. This site is wonderful as it is more than the food & weight. It is a support group for all kind of daily things we go through. I have been so encouraged by the ladies on this site
When you need to rant, rave, brag whatever email me & I will get back to you. You will see that the folks on the site will also reply.

Ok I promised on Friday or was it Saturday  that I would get my March Goals up:
    In March
I will post 6 out of 7 days
I will lose at the very least 1 lb a week
    I will exercise everyday :embarassed:
I will drink more than 4 glasses of water a day :drinker:
I will say 1 nice thing about myself everyday :blushing:
I will answer all emails from MFP friends daily :flowerforyou:
This should provide some good results this month.
Feb I didn't post goals as I had just joined group. Well as you see by my weight loss that didn't go to well. :explode:
    Keep me on track ladies!

Forgot to look at my goals from last month which is one of the reasons I posted earlier; so......here we go:
    Wear pedometer..........about half time
Log food and eat more fish...........pretty good on both
    Exercise 5x/week............yes!!!
    Follow Katla's water guide............yes!!!
Haven't made it on the scale lately but as of the last time the loss was 2lbs. which means 51/2 more to get back to goal, I think. I'll keep these goals for March.

Heather...........Hope your knee issue is diagnosed quickly and treatment is fast, simple, and effective! I'm still in love with that baby; she's so cute......everytime I see that pic I just kind of melt a little.

Katla...........I am 5' 3" and some petites are a smidge too short and reg sizes are 2" too long..........it seems to all depend on the brand for me.

    Cynthia..........Wow, what a great guy!

My DH got off his usual route home from work tonight due to an accident (we've had many because of the ice) and called me for directions---we've only lived here 33 yrs!!! That man is so set in his ways........anyway, I'm glad he called and even moreso that he got home safely..........who knows where he might have ended up, lol.

Looking doubtful that I will get Gwen to the eye dr. tomorrow.

:flowerforyou: Sylvia, your bathtub NSV is awesome and one you will remember and use as motivation to continue

:flowerforyou: Heather, getting into strength training a little at a time was a smart way to go….so many people start off with a big burst and quit before long……congrats on your 4 pack

:flowerforyou: Latoldy, congrats on not listening to the voice that said “you deserve a little”…..I read somewhere that thoughts like that are childish relationships with food

:flowerforyou: Katla, I knit cotton dishrags in the summer and blankets in the winter…..I don’t knit as much now that I am more active.

:flowerforyou: Michele, when Jake and I traveled a lot, he wanted to leave before daylight to miss the traffic.

:flowerforyou: Anamika, I am inspired by your running a half marathon but I am more likely to increase my walking rather than start running

:flowerforyou: Beth, thanks for the information about the dryer…..we cleaned the vents at both ends….also the load was very heavy and I put it In immediately after taking out another load……when I started the dryer again I did only half the load.

:flowerforyou: Mandy, the best foods for low or no fat are vegetables

:flowerforyou: Pat, we watched the Oscars and loved Bette Midler’s song

:flowerforyou: Jaya, many health care professionals recommend only 1600 mg of sodium a day.

:flowerforyou: Margaret, I try to avoid going to restaurants as much as possible……the sodium is high even when I order a plain grilled chicken breast and steamed vegetables.

 Jill, that’s great news about your knees.

:flowerforyou: Cynthia, your guy is a keeper…..but then you already knew that.

:flowerforyou: Pennie, if you read the posts and reply almost every day, you will be encouraged by all of us to keep up with your other goals.

  After all my talk about sodium, I have to confess that my big meal today was two turkey franks with whole wheat buns and sauerkraut and mustard…….a rare treat for me…….I’ve been thirsty all afternoon.

:flowerforyou: This afternoon I went for a walk with a friend who winters in Arizona and this year sold her house down there and is home in Washington to stay……we would have talked longer but an hour was a long as she is comfortable walking.

JOYCE, happy to hear that you enjoyed your birthday wishes as I am sending you another to brighten the day.
TIARPANTS congratulations on your new grand baby too! My newest grand baby girl was born the same day. We will be traveling to see her as well in a couple of weeks.
THANK YOU All for the grand baby wishes and congratulations; nothing like those grand Ones!
KAY in WI, one day it will be you and we shall celebrate the occasion in a big way!
KAY (drkatiebug) ♥ your goals - simple, makes life grand :)
DEEDEE, looking back at last year February was not a good month nor was March; looks like I need to pull in the reins on March & hoping that we both have a good month.
SYLVIA my February goals were like dust in the wind too but you, lady lost 5 lbs and that is awesome!
REBEL RANNY, I am really glad to see you point out that not all planks and crunches are good for everyone due to abdominal muscle separations; mine are the result of surgery but hazardous all the same. Occasionally I forget and sit-up straight - regretfully.
RORI, I'll be traveling to your state in a couple of weeks to see my grand baby girl. We also had some that lion weather for March and will be looking for the lamb - hoping to find it when I get to Denver. So sorry to hear that about your husband's diabetes; hopefully the exercises will curtail the damage and he will do fine. Congrats on getting your taxes in the mail!!!

And here's where my mind boggles; there are so many other posts - some I read - being so far behind I can't keep my thoughts straight so at this point I will wish everyone well; hope the worst of winter has past us all and we can start seeing Spring flowers.

    God bless,

Well we went to Red Lobster. My husband went with the attitude that he wouldn't like anything because they didn't have cod but he got a crab linguini and really liked it. I got the shrimp linguini alfredo. Yes, I know. Anything with alfredo at the end is bad for me but it's my birthday, haven't hardly eaten anything for the past 3 days and just plain wanted it. I usually get the baked flounder there. I know it would have been nice and bland but alfredo is one of my comfort foods I turn to when I am stressed. Hot dogs and macaroni and cheese are the others. So I ordered the 1/2 order and ate only about 1/2 of that. I am finding that hot tea helps to settle my stomach and had two cups of that during supper. I am sure that I will eat the other half throughout the evening. He had 5 cheddar biscuits, I had 2. So I do feel better. I had told him that I felt like I needed a mega dose of protein.

Did 45 minutes of yoga and then took a 45 min step class. Came home and cleaned the condo (boo hoo). We're going out to Denny's tonight. Vince wants to leave around 10 tomorrow so that we miss the rush hour traffic in Charlotte. If it were up to me, I'd want to leave earlier. Actually, I've sent an email to a friend of mine who works in Charlotte and drives from Charlotte to Hickory many days a week to ask her just how bad it really is.

I think you're technically supposed to get only 5 visits to the Y but I think the gal looked the other way when I'd reached my limit. I did tell her that today would be my last day there so I really don't feel right going to the Y early tomorrow. So I'll just walk around the parking lot tomorrow.

Anamika - you made me feel so good about being interviewed. What an inspiration you will be! Best of luck to you

Welcome all new ladies. You'll love it here.

Pat - congrats on becoming a great grand

Margaret - it was so weird how I really wished for my own fruit. But I also have to look at it from a convenience standpoint, can't have everything down here. Tonight we went to Denny's for dinner. I had the grilled chicken breast. You know, to me it tasted on the salty side. Now I'm not sure if that's because I'm used to lower sodium or if it was some spice that they used. Had broccoli (steamed) with it along with a fruit salad which consisted of bananas, grapes, apples, and blueberries. It wasn't much but it was enough. When I got home I had a yogurt, not because I really wanted it but because I needed to finish it up before tomorrow. I also had some Arctic Zero ice cream, again because I needed to use it up. There is a little more that I'll have tomorrow morning (what a breakfast! Boca burgers, egg substitute, and mixed vegetables and ice cream -- things I want to use up)

The scale at the Y says I lost about 2 pounds from when we got here, but I'm sure a lot of that is water weight.

Patsy - (((hugs))). I can't believe the abuse your niece had to put up with! That's horrible. She's so lucky to have you

yanniejannie - Gwen is ever so lucky to have you

Cynthia - you certainly are one lucky gal

katla - I love sweet potatoes. I was just surprised that they were as high in calories as they are. But that's OK, I'll deal with it. When I'm shopping sometimes I wonder if a shirt is meant to be long sleeved or 3/4 sleeve Most of them seem to be 3/4, at least on me

Well, we put some things in the car already and will put more tomorrow.

Michele soon to be back in NC

Kicking off my exercise week with bodypump. I was able to increase the weight on the chest presses.

Tonight I made a huge green salad to go with some soup. I made the dressing in the food processor with raw cashews, orange segments and a bit of lemon juice and garlic. I think it turned out well enough to try it again. No added salt! I like to put canned beets in salad sometimes, and was surprised to see that the pickled ones have a lot less sodium than the regular ones.

I am still working on spring cleaning. Time to go through the bathroom now and clear out the things we don't use anymore.

    Hello Friends,
Past my bedtime, but don’t want to end the day without a couple of replies and committing this months goals.

Michelle: Yes, the book Salt, Sugar, Fat How the Food Giants Hooked Us, is available on Audible.com. I just downloaded it and will begin to listen while I do my morning workout.

Heather: I spend considerable time in New York City hotels and can assure you that it is one of the best places for finding healthy food. Fruit vendors on the corners. Create your own salads in every deli. Foods of every nationality all over the place. However, the wholesome options are side by side with all the lovely bakeries, bars and bistros tempting with delicious smells and enticing menus. NY is a feast for all the senses. Congrats on getting your 4-pack back. Hope you find a resolution to the knee issues.

Joyce: Happy birthday. Now that you've had some comfort foods, hope you'll be back to your active self.

Vicki: So glad to hear the turnout for DH’s party was so tremendous. Good for you for avoiding cake.

Sue: I’m sure the crochet shawls are going to be very comforting to hospitalized patients. Bravo.

Carol in NC: So sorry to hear your son is still not well. I’m tired just reading all you are doing for the kids and your church. Please take care of you, too.

Teral: I hope we get to meet you while you're in Colorado. Today was sunny and beautiful -- spring is coming!

For those who want my ‘recipe’ for chicken and vegetable curry, I’m sorry to disappoint you. I wing it using S&B Golden Curry Sauce (NOT recommended for those curbing sodium), frozen stir fry vegetables and boneless, skinless chicken cut into cubes. The ‘sauce’ actually is in the form of a paste you mix with water, broth or coconut milk. I use water. About 270 calories a serving. My DH likes it over brown rice. Speaking of DH, I started work on his very special 70th birthday adventure: a trip to Alaska this September. Has anyone ever stayed in Denali National Park?

    Stay well,
