Light Mayo.... Wow!!!

I love creamy foods. Mayo had been a regular food item in my menu throughout my life. I knew "Mayo" would be an item I will miss during diet, until a few weeks ago!

I bought Best Foods Low Fat Mayo Dressing (15 Calories per Table Spoon) a few weeks ago and now I am happy :drinker:
I use a tea spoon for small sandwich and 2 tablespoon to make tuna salad and it tricks my mind into thinking that my food includes Mayonnaise :) I am happy and satisfied about this substitute and wanted to share it with you, my fellow dieters :flowerforyou:

Why not have real mayo if that's what you like? No food is good or bad. Moderation is the key.

I would have regular mayo, fat is not bad for you

anything that is "fat free" or "low fat" means there is more sugar in it which can be bad for you

I love mayo. Like absolutely love it. I dip artichoke hearts in it, mix it with ketchup and dip fries in it, put it in egg salad, mmmm. I was surprised that the light wasn't nasty.

Thank you all for taking the time to leave a note for me. I know myself. THE way I have written about really does the trick in MY mind and I am happy about it. My diet, is based on calorie intake and I MUCH RATHER to save 85 calories per tablespoon (170 for the two tablespoons I add to the tuna salad) from Mayo and be able to spend that on something else I can eat.
Again, thank you for your input and support. :flowerforyou:

If you like the taste, then it sounds like a good way to cut calories to me. Does it taste like regular mayo?

I buy low fat mayo - it does have less calories per serve than regular mayo and tastes the same to me.

I mean, mayo isn't something you eat by itself anyway - perhaps if I ate a spoon of low fat mayo and a spoon of regular mayo by themselves I could tell difference - but mixed in potato salad, spread on salad sandwich etc - no, I cant.

Just FYI, full-fat PLAIN greek yogurt is a good substitute for sour cream. Just don't accidentally buy vanilla when you are making onion dip...

Is it "Best Foods" or "Best Choice"? I've seen some brands by "Best Choice", so I was wondering. I love mayo and would be happy to try a lightened up version that fits into my goals :)

or reverse that when making dip for fruit...hehe

I too am one of those that tries to save calories by using low fat or light options.

For example skim milk over 2%, cereal cream vs coffee cream, low fat cheese vs regular cheese, non fat greek yogurt vs regular yogurt and yes Light Miracle whip (not the non fat that's icky) for regular Miracle whip.

It means I can have my Timmies if I want or chocoalte covered almonds...yah for substitutions.

I've recently started buying some of the flavored mayos. Most are full calorie, but hear me out.... Many pack quite a flavor punch (I'm currently really liking Kraft's Horseradish-Dijon Mayo) so I use waaaaaay less and still get my mayo taste!

totally agree. That means I can waste the calories on something else I would rather have :)

That's awesome that you found something you like! :)

For everyone else, compare the labels on light mayo and regular mayo. Egads, man. The light mayo has about three times the ingredients.

You can get lighter than light mayo for 10cals a tablespoon. I've seen at least 2 brands of it.

edit: You can compare normal (100cal)/ light (40cal)/ lighter than light (10cal) mayo ingredients and nutrition here:

    https://www.hellmanns.co.uk/products/mayonnaise/

The normal mayo is 77% oil!

I've always used lighter than light (Hellmans) but decided to try the full fat version. Yes they do taste different, but in tuna mayo/ as an ingredient it's not noticeable, I am using the full fat one as a condiment, since for me that is when it's worth the calories.

Ditto this is why I use light miracle whip for my tuna. Saves a bunch of calories and I hate regular mayo.

I had some chicken salad the other day that was made w/ mostly greek yogurt and a little light mayo and it was DIVINE. I'm with most of you in that I don't by low/non-fat anything, but this was quite good.
