    I just do....

I love to see my progress and the fact that I can lift as much or more than a lot of guys.

My shoulders and arms look amazing...my *kitten* still needs a bit of work mind

But I don't mind Cardio either but not boring treadmill stuff but things like cardio circuits, tabata and HIIT

oh- being the boss who rips 3 plates off the floor for reps-that's a good reason too.

    one day.

    <le sigh>

also- doing pull ups- wildly satisfying- not sure why- but it's amazaballs.

and the *kitten*- I think everyone does it for the *kitten* (cue song)

    1) I want to set myself up for a healthy life
    2) I like the "o_O" looks I get when I swing a heavy kettlebell or goblet squat with a big old dumbbell at the gym
    3) I like feeling/being strong.
    4) It gives me confidence
    5) It's giving me my sexyback.

Because it builds a long, lean strong beautiful body. You will not bulk.

    Love this topic!!

I lift because I love the rush afterwards, love seeing the inches go down, love the way my arms and legs look, and HELLO my booty is looking like a booty again!!!

Also... Being able to lug around a 33lb toddler like a football makes life easier sometimes :D

    To lead a better life.

With a strong body, I can do more and feel good doing it.

I lift because I'm lazy and don't like cardio.

I lift because it's physically and mentally satisfying to me.

    I lift because I can.

I lift because I have osteopenia, and wanted to keep it from getting worse. 18 months later, not only has it not gotten worse, but it's gone from my lower body and improved in my spine and shoulders. I'm gonna keep lifting.

I've never felt more proud of myself. Lifting gives a serious sense of accomplishment, especially after seeing my body change week to week! Best decision I ever made.

because it's awesome.... and I hate cardio.

I don't care about the health benefits- I love lifting. Period.

    And muscles.

    I love muscles.

    Exactly this! :D

Too many reasons to even begin to list. A great one for me however, has been the ability to throw my 38lb toddler over my shoulder to carry him out of the store when he's being difficult. The looks I get are hilarious, because he's huge.

To all the women who lift,

Did you start lifting after you had lost weight, or did you lift TO lose weight??

I really do like lifting heavy for all of the reasons above, but mostly because I love seeing my progress in how much weight I'm able to move ... but I am also obese -- clinically, medically, all of it. I also notice that I start to look more bulky when I lift since I still have alot of fat on my body.

My question is: Will I lose weight/fat/however you want to break it down, by lifting heavy?

Just to clarify, when I say I look "bulky", I know it is because the muscle is getting bigger underneath the fat ... but all you can see is the fat!
