Stopped Logging, lost more

So I have been counting and logging calories everyday for more than a month to better my eating habits and get in shape, I felt confident enough in my eating habits and workout routine that I don't need to log anymore, within the first 3 days I lost 3.1 pounds. No I havent been starving myself but havent eaten alot either, and I know it isn't water weight, because I weighed myself on my rest weekend first thing in the morning. Anyone else experience this?

I did, at first. And then I slowly crept back into my old habits.

My advice is to keep on keeping on, if it's working for you, but keep a careful eye on your weight. If you notice it start creeping up, start logging again.

You lost mostly water & glycogen—not fat. Weight fluctuates day to day & throughout the day.

That was the same for me.... At first. But as another poster said... The old eating habits creeped back. Oh it was just a cookie here, a slice of bread there... Eyeballing weights of calorie rich food (pasta) and well... then there was my cruise I went on... I mean who diets on a cruise and after all it's just 4 days... That collided with thanksgiving, which lead into the Christmas goodies... Yeah.. After losing 70 pounds... I found 15 of them again. So I think for me, I will need to keep logging. I have already dropped almost 1/2 of what I found just by logging again and I think it's something I will just need to do. At least one week logging and one week off etc... Just to keep an eye in things. But this is just ME and not everyone is the same.

Congrats on your weight loss! And my mission will be not to think like that. Unless a special occasion, like a date or a cruise :)

I am sure we all have a mission not to think like that but in reality in happens. I have gained back about 9 pounds since last fall, all for various reasons but I am sure if I was logging on a regular basis, I would be more aware and less likely to have so many treats and extra things.

It only happens if you let it happen, so I disagree with you there

You're right, it only happens if you let it happen. But it IS easy to let it happen.

As I said, if it works for you, great! But I advise you to still weigh yourself, at least once a week, and if you notice the pounds start to come back on, get a handle on your eating.

I don't understand the point of using MFP if a person doesn't log their foods. It is teaching me so much, being able to see patterns and even daily totals.
